Dark Knight weekend tally: $158.4 million. Tell you what, I'll bet you my signature Twilight doesn't sell as much if you combined it's grossing from theater plus DVD's sales. Deal? ![]() | |

One reason films are released right before the end of the year is so that they qualify for the awards the following year. The Dark Knight grossed over $155M its first weekend. That's a record. "Blockbusters" are traditionally released in the summer when the kids are off school and can go to see them. Furthermore, it is a romance not an action film. I would be surprized if it grossed more than $25M total. If you look at some of Catherine Hardwicke's other films: Thirteen grossed $4.6M US, Lords of Dogtown $11M, The Nativity Story which opened in December - $38M, so its just not in the same league as a film such as The Dark Knight. Plus look at the competition it will be up against: Punisher, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Spirit, etc. |

| Newbie | I think Twilight will make much more than The Dark Knight. This is just my opinion, so don't get angry; I think people only went and saw The Dark Knight because of the whole Heath Ledger being the Joker, then dying and so on, so they wanted to see it without Heath Ledger, or because of Heath Ledger. Or, whatever. I also think Twilight will make more money than The Dark Knight, just because it is expected to be a much much much better movie than many others. People have been waiting up to 4 (?) years to see the Twilight movie. How long were they waiting to see The Dark Knight? I, myself, am going to see Twilight in the movies (More than once.) and also buy it on DVD when it comes out. So, I bet that Twilight will make more money than The Dark Knight, because, personally, it's better. (I also have no interest in ever seeing The Dark Knight, just so you know.) |

Undaunted by any of it, Summit Entertainment announced today that they will move their anticipated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's teen romance novel Twilight into the slot vacated by Half-Blood Prince, upping the release date from the movie's original December 12 opening to November 21, the week before Thanksgiving. It will now be going up against Disney's animated movie Bolt which itself moved into the slot yesterday after Warner Bros' decision. The Hollywood Reporter has the full story including a quote from Summit's Rob Friedman, who stated that they were "by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible Potter franchise for 2008, rather we are just looking to bring the fans of Stephenie Meyer's incredible book series the film as soon possible from a programming perspective." |

Surpassing The dark Knight...I dunnno, that movie made far more $$ than I imagined it would. Thanks in part to poor Heath Ledger. Last edited by Ophelia; 08-15-2008 at 10:11 PM.. |
