Why have Harry Clearwater?

Is anyone else wondering why they would cast someone to play harry clearwater when he's just going to be dead anyway? I can't remember, does he even appear or have any lines in the book? If he does, I don't really see that it is of any importance to actually put in the movie, can't they just talk about the funeral without actually showing it?What do you guys think?

it didnt bother me.
There were other differences that did, at least the first time around.
as to why get someone to play him when he was going to die that soon anyway...well, there were even less reason to show Bella`s stepdad at the beginning. that one short``I love you all to death but we have to go`` thing.

Pretty early in the movie I figured out there is no reason to expect it to go down like the book did. I guess its because they made the movie for those too who hasnt read the book yet. But one person I spoke with, who saw the movie first and then read the book, told me that she never understood from the movie how special Bella was. I guess the movie didnt bring that one out well enough.
But those friends who had read the book but went to see the movie after I did, I had to warn them not to expect it to be like the book was, I told them there were big differences and I guess thats why they had a problem with liking it.

Graham Greene (Harry Clearwater) is an excellent character actor who looks the part of an indian because he is an indian. Although it was not emphasized in the book (New Moon), a counsel meeting takes place to discuss the vampire problem. I believe this will have more import in later installments.
