Cool OTH Article and News thread #1

Figured I'd also make a thread dedicated to all the OTH related news and articles. Articles that concern only one cast member can be posted here, but also in the thread dedicated to that partical cast member.

Please make sure you post articles with spoilers in the spoiler and speculation thread.

The CW -- America's new fifth terrestrial network being created out of a merger between The WB and UPN -- has confirmed that it plans to stick with its current moniker.

Despite being mockingly called "The WC" in some quarters, the network's entertainment chief Dawn Ostroff has revealed that the name already has close to 50% recognition among The CW's 18-34 demographic.

The network has also started indicating which shows will be returning for the 2006-07 TV season. Everwood, Reba, Everybody Hates Chris, Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural and One Tree Hill have all been mentioned on promo leaflets for the network's launch.

Also among announcements from The CW were confirmations on 27 new station affiliates; the network now has around 66% US terrestrial coverage.

Make A Wish-Cancer victim Figueroa dream comes true when she meets cast of 'One Tree Hill'

Douglas High School student Adriana Figueroa, only 17 years of age, received devastating news on May 24, 2005.

Just two weeks shy of completing her sophomore year, Adriana was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after suffering several months of abdominal pain and discomfort. Since then she's faced hardships and her life will never be the same.

Figueroa was treated at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Care Center, where she had the tumor removed. Within the tumor removed there were three types of cancerous cells. The tumor was the size of a cantaloupe, which was reason for concern.

Due to her illness Figueroa had to undergo chemotherapy, which consisted of 20 sessions, nine hours a day for five days, then she'd return home for two weeks. The chemotherapy was administered at the Tucson North West Hospital, where she spent most of her time sedated during treatment to avoid the symptoms and physical effects of the chemotherapy.

This treatment cycle began on June 20 and ended August 26, 2005.

Figueroa said, "The hardest part of having cancer was going through chemotherapy, I feared the symptoms and I dreaded the thought of losing my hair."

Figueroa is the oldest of three daughters. Her parents, Mario and Mercedes Figueroa, today continue to face the reality that their daughter is recovering from cancer.

According to statistics Adriana is one of the 5 percent of juveniles the get ovarian cancer. Her case is being studied at Harvard University and the University of Houston. With the guidance of these two institutions Dr. Alton Hallum has been able to properly treat Adriana. Adriana's younger sister Alexis, 13, was also diagnosed with ovarian tumors on April 27, 2005. At her early age, she had surgery to remove two tumors in her ovaries and one in the right fallopian tube, which was 15 pounds and caused some deformity that had to be repaired.

The surgery worked well for Alexis, but unfortunately doctors have found that she has elevated cancer cells. Like her sister, Figueroa was also diagnosed with elevated cancer cells. As a result they both remain under Dr. Hallum's care and need to get ultrasounds, pelvic exams and cat scans as part of their medical treatment to avoid any new cases of cancer.

In spite of this bitter experience, Figueroa has felt the support of her family, friends and medical staff.

After her chemotherapy she lost all of her hair and to show support her uncles Luis and Carlos Gonzales, nino Martin Figueroa and cousin Carlos Gonzales Jr. shaved all of their hair. Then when her hair began to grow back they let it grow along with hers to show their support.

Aside from the support of her family, the hospital staff enrolled Adriana in the Make-A- Wish Foundation Program.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

The Make A Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 and since then its become a very well know, reaching more than 144,000 children worldwide.

Fortunately, Figueroa was a good candidate and eligible for a wish, because she's less than 18 years of age and had a life-threatening condition. The foundation has a network of more than 25,000 volunteers that enable it to serve children with life-threatening conditions. The volunteers serve as wish granters, special events coordinators and fund raisers among other duties.

The volunteers in charge of Figueroa's wish were Liza and Kevin Kushner whom with the help of her parents were able to begin the process of enrolling her in the program.

Soon Figueroa got to make a wish, surprisingly her first choice was a Pug dog which the foundation declined due to policy. The foundation notified her that they would only grant elaborate wishes, something impossible for her to get.

Her wish then became to meet the Cast of "One Tree Hill" her favorite TV show. To her surprise her wish was granted and on Sunday, March 5, 2006 she was on her way to eastern North Carolina to meet the cast members.

The foundation financed all trip, flight, hotel, car rental, and limousine service expenses for the entire family.

The six-day trip allowed Adriana to visit the different sets of the show, but most importantly to meet some of the main cast members. She also got to give the cast members bracelets she made herself and flowers. The bracelets were hand made by Figueroa who said, "I made each bracelet according to their personality on the show, they were specifically color beaded, which they really liked."

During her visit she met Deb Scott-Barbara Alynwood, James Lafferty-Nathan Scott, Hilary Burton-Peyton Sawyer, Bethany Jot Lenz-Haley James, Paul Johanson-Dan Scott, the production, direction, hair and make-up and wardrobe crews.

Unfortunately, Sophia Bush-Brook Davis and Chad Michael Murray-Lucas Scott were out of town and she didn't get to meet them in person.

Surprisingly after her visit Figueroa received great news from Assistant to Producer Beth Crockham. Crockham called Figueroa to tell her that actress Sophia Bush would be wearing the bracelet she gave her on the third season's episode because she felt terrible that she didn't get to meet her.

Aside from meeting the cast members, site seeing in North Carolina, visiting the sets of "One Tree Hill" and being treated like royalty Figueroa received autographed pictures of all cast members and free items like a signed calendar and the show's season DVDs. Figueroa said, "I didn't think meeting the cast of "One Tree Hill and going to North Carolina to visit the set was possible, it's something I'll never forget."

Her family says it's been a wakening experience, something they thought would never happen to them. Mercedes Figueroa said, "I felt that God was testing me as a mother and my faith, but now I know Adriana is going to be ok along with my other daughter Alexis." Now that Figueroa has overcome the illness she says she sees herself as a different person, someone who is stronger thanks to the support of family and friends.

Adriana said, "My advice to others in similar conditions would be to not let the circumstances make you angry or resentful, learn how to cope and use any resource that can make you stronger and triumphant."

Kohl's Dons Vintage Candie's

Kohl's is hosting three-hour in-store events to promote the new Vintage Candie's apparel line from Iconix Brand Group.

The Aug. 18 events are part of a broader campaign to support the chain's latest exclusive Candie's line, which launched in mid-July. (See Related Articles for information on other exclusives.) The Vintage Candie's line was created to celebrate the brand's 25th anniversary.

During the one-night, three-hour events, shoppers who buy Candie's products receive posters autographed by rock legend Pat Benatar and teenage music artist Cheyenne Kimball, who serve as spokespersons for the overall campaign. Shoppers also can register to win Kimball CDs, Candie's T-shirts and other prizes that will be given away every 15 minutes.

The artists are featured on Candie's signage being used to promote the special collection of apparel, footwear and accessories. The campaign broke with TV spots in mid-July and also includes print ads in September issues of fashion and entertainment magazines.

Kohl's is using the exclusive line as a major driver for its back-to-school "Generation Transformation" campaign. As part of the seasonal effort, the chain is hosting a "Generation Transformation Creative Expression" sweepstakes. The grand prize is a trip for two to Los Angeles to attend a launch party for new broadcast television network CW. Secondary prizes include cash, store gift cards and an autographed Candie's Gibson guitar.

A Generation Transformation contest is also underway in which contestants submit an original film with a "generation transformation" theme. The grand prize is $1,500 and an internship on CW series One Tree Hill or a visit to a movie set. Secondary prizes include cash and autographed Tony Hawk Birdhouse skate decks. Support for the promotions include stanchion signs.

Kohl's, Menomonee Falls, WI, operates 749 stores in 43 states. The company plans to open 85 stores in the Midwest and Southeast in 2006 and have 1,200 units by 2010.

ABC orders family drama "October Road"

ABC has ordered six episodes of he drama "October Road."

The project centers on a young, acclaimed novelist (Bryan Greenberg) at a crossroads in life when he returns to his hometown to teach at the local university and faces the family and friends he left behind.

It hasn't yet been determined if the series will run in the spring or summer.

The drama pilot, which co-stars Tom Berenger and Geoff Stults, didn't make the cut in May, but ABC kept the pilot in play by extending the options of the actors in July.

Disney's Touchstone TV studio is producing the project with GroupM Entertainment -- advertising firm WPP's network of media agencies, including MediaCom, Mediaedge:cia and MindShare.

GroupM will receive "a time bank" of inventory of ad time that it will make available to all of its clients, said Mediaedge:cia chief investment officer Rino Scanzoni.

'One Tree Hill' To Hold Open Casting Call In Cary

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The producers of "One Tree Hill," the teen drama filmed in Wilmington, will hold an open casting call this weekend for extras to participate in filming next month in Raleigh.

The producers of the CW Network series, starring Chad Michael Murray, will hold the casting call Saturday and Sunday at Cary Towne Center mall. They are looking for 300 to 500 people to be fans at a high school basketball game, said Kelly Ewing of Fincannon and Associates, a Wilmington-based casting company that handles casting for "One Tree Hill."

The basketball game scene will be filmed for two to three days in late October in Raleigh.

The casting call will be held between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and noon and 6 p.m. Sunday. Applicants should bring a photo of themselves.

When characters from "One Tree Hill" take a road trip, it’s no small feat.
And Wednesday’s episode of the CW drama series proves it. Virtually the entire cast and crew traveled from their usual North Carolina set to Honey Grove, Texas (pop. 1,746), where high school students made the winning video in a contest to have the show film a story on location.
Co-star Hilarie Burton, who plays often-troubled Peyton Sawyer, made an advance trip to deliver the news. "Our show takes place in a small town, so it felt really appropriate to go to another one," she said. "To interact with our fans was kind of unsettling. I’m an old-looking ’teenager,’ so it was fun to hang out with real teens and get a perspective on the age we’re playing."

CW and Warner Bros. Television, which produces "One Tree Hill," partnered with the beverage company Sunkist in sponsoring the contest. Any concerns about Honey Grove residents getting in the way of the actors’ work evaporated quickly, according to Burton.
"They were really generous, warm and hospitable," she said. "They got to see what the process was like. We do take after take, and we’re kind of a well-oiled machine at this point, since we’re in our fourth season. We’re also a family and we just included them in it."
In Wednesday’s episode, Peyton and friends, including Lucas, Brooke, Nathan and Haley (Chad Michael Murray, Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Galeotti), head for Honey Grove to retrieve their pal Mouth (Lee Norris), who has text-messaged them for help after landing in jail. They arrive just as Honey Grove is having its school prom, thus the chance for many locals to appear on camera.
"It turned out to be a lot of fun," said Galeotti, who is pregnant on the show but not in real life. "I grew up in Texas between the ages of 3 and 12, and it was great to drive through Dallas; I had forgotten how beautiful the architecture is. Everybody (in Honey Grove) was really excited, and what surprised me the most was how respectful everyone was. They seemed hopeful, like something new and exciting was happening for their town."
Also a singer who has performed musically on the show, Galeotti admits she has been "eating some humble pie. I thought we were going to have so many problems, with extras looking into the camera or wandering around and not knowing they were walking into a shot. It was amazing that they were so great. They really paid attention and listened to direction, and they wanted to do the best job they could. It was really wonderful."
On their last night in Honey Grove, some of the actors learned just how welcome they were.
"They have a ’One Tree Hill’ viewing party every week and they invited us over," former MTV personality Burton reported. "There were rules. We were not allowed to have our cell phones on and we couldn’t talk until the commercial breaks. It was really great that we got to introduce them to our process and that they got to introduce us to theirs."

Following the survival of "One Tree Hill" -- also being repeated weeknights on SoapNet -- from the now-defunct WB Network to CW, both Burton and Galeotti hope it will earn a fifth season. Now co-creating a 1940s-influenced stage musical, Galeotti reflects, "I would love to come back for another 13 episodes, sort of as a last hurrah for everybody, knowing exactly how much time we have. I think that would be great for all of us."

Lightbulb OTH picked up for a 5th season

CW picks up dramas
No word yet on 'Veronica Mars'
By JOSEF ADALIANThe CW has officially greenlit three dramas and two unscripted magazine shows -- but there's still no final word on the fate of "Veronica Mars."
Definitely gone: "All of Us," the Will Smith-produced laffer that ran for three seasons on UPN and the CW. Returning shows snagging official pickups: Laffers "Girlfriends" and "The Game" and dramas "Smallville," "Supernatural" and "One Tree Hill." CW picked up "Everybody Hates Chris" for a third season earlier this spring.

As expected, CW execs Tuesday called the producers of "Gossip Girl," "Reaper" and a remake of Blighty family drama "Wild at Heart" to give them the good news. Things are still looking promising for comedy "Aliens in America," though as of early Tuesday afternoon , there was no official order yet.

CW is moving forward with a pair of magazine style shows, both of which will likely air Sunday nights in the 7 p.m. timeslot. "Online Nation" is a sort of "America's Funniest Home Videos" for the YouTube generation, while "CW Now" is the net's "ET"-style look at pop culture.

On the scripted side, greenlight for "Gossip Girl" gives exec producer Josh Schwartz his second series order this season. It's a quick comeback for Schwartz, whose last hit -- Fox's "The OC" -- left the air in February.

Though that was rumored i know the One Tree Hill part is wrong, because One Tree Hill isn't starting in the fall. One Tree Hill is going to be a mid-season show that will start in January. Whats good about that though, is that there will be less or maybe no hiatus'!
