Well that's because writers are important. And as so they should be compensated. Can someone tell me why they shouldn't be compensated for online content? If you have someone to have beef with, have it with the lazy fat cat corporations, head ponchos. I am generally in favour of unions because collectivity is the only way for workers to ever have any heft in advocating for their better treatment, safety and compensation. Even for people who don't generally care about how things are for other people, just looking at what the facts are when it comes to how writers are scarcely compensated for home video sales and simply NOT compensated for internet streams (which their bosses tell shareholders are enormously profitable) should make it pretty clear that there's nothing for it but to refuse to continue with an arrangement like that. And yeah, it's inconvenient for everybody. That's called pitching in because all of those writers who "can't" work during the strike owe anything good about their job to the union to begin with, and will continue to benefit from the union's struggle on their behalf. Cats getting all weepy about "their shows" don't tug a lot of heart strings for me. If you have any respect for the team creating the show you want to see so bad, respect their right to profit from their own endeavours. You want EVERY channel to look like MTV this time next year!? |

| Member of Sylar's Army ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | as much as i love watching this show among others i would have to side with the union. mainly cuz i was once in a union and they helped me and others go from getting paid $11 dollars an hour to $12 dollars an hour. lots of money for the job i was working. the union made it happen. and if these guys can get what they want, well good for them. but here's something that would be even worse...what if the strike went just went on and on all the way thru next year. there would be no new shows. that's ok i can wait it out, i have other things to keep me busy. |

The writers arnt minimum wage employees. There past contract's minimum wage for TV shows was $27,000 per half hour written. Plus benefits and residuals. The thing is what there fighting for will mostly help those who already make lots of money, those who write the hit TV shows that come out on DVD and the blockbuster movies. The other thing is internet compensation. Theres currently no revenue. Not enough people watch ad supported free streams for the ads to pay that much. And pay downloads like iTunes are already cut up to hell and only $1.99. But I can see where the writers are coming from here, they where tricked in a way by the studios and left out of the big DVD boom. |

| Ya Rly! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm definitely for the strike, and I hope that Heroes replaces the writers they have now with ones who DON'T SUCK. The main reason I'm for the strike is because lots of people are under the assumption that Hollywood writers are rich, and live cool lifestyles without being in the public eye, like famous actors. Not true at all. Even staff writers on TV shows may only write a few scripts a year (maybe more if they're considered a producer or helped develop/create the show). Screenwriters have a less steady, but potentially more lucrative gig if they're good enough and have the connections to be "script doctors," who will come in and make a certain scene work or improve the dialog. That can be a pain if you're at all concerned with artistic integrity and/or want to see your name in the credits. It would be nice if this strike made studio people realize how important writers are to the film making process and not treat them like crap like they currently do. |
