Default Emma Watson may not play Hermione is all movies

Exclusive: Harry Potter and the Wavering Costar

Newsweek

Oct. 2, 2006 issue - "Harry Potter" might lose one of its stars. The fifth film in the series, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," is currently filming at Leavesden Studios north of London. Negotiations to lock in Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) for the final two films are in the preliminary stages, and while the boys are likely to commit, Watson, 16, is unsure. "I don't know yet," she told NEWSWEEK near the set of 12 Grimmauld Place, secret headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. "Every film is such a huge production, and it's a long time." Saying yes would mean she'd be playing the studious Hermione until she's 20. Watson scored near-perfect grades on her national exams. College must be on her mind, not to mention a career, and she's not sure acting is in the cards. "Daniel and Rupert seem so sure," she says, and looks sincerely plagued that she isn't. "I love to perform, but there are so many things I love doing." Pause. "Maybe that sounds ungrateful. I've been given such an amazing opportunity, but I'll just have to go with the flow."

So will Warner Bros. The studio has generated $3.5 billion worldwide with this trio. Recasting Watson, or any of them, would be risky. "It would be a hard thing to change and it would be disrupting," says producer David Heyman, who secured the rights to the "Potter" books from author J. K. Rowling years ago, and has been the franchise's shepherd. "So yes, I would love them all to see it through to the end. I adore them—I feel like an uncle or godfather—but ultimately they have to do what's right for them. This is their lives." He notes that Watson went through this same questioning process before signing on for the third and fourth films. "So I'm cautiously optimistic that it will work itself out," he says.
Well I really hope she decides to stay and do more Harry Potter movies.

I really hope she does stay, it would be really bad if she actually decided to leave.

I hope she decides to stay, too! That'd be sad if she left.

I really hope she plays Hermione. I hate it when they change the actors. There are only three more movies. Why wouldn't she stay?? She does a really good job at Hermione.

HELL, she'll be getting paid a fortune for continuing to play Hermione & plus she can still go to College while still on set.

Besides Natalie Portman still went to College when she signed on for the 3 "Star Wars" Prequels, she was basicly taking her College Courses while filming each of them so when she was done filming all her scenes for each one she would go back Harvard to finish out said classes & to finish College all together.

Emma basicly thought they wouldn't be making so many "Harry Potter" Movies like they're planning on doing. Besides according to everyone that is involved with all the Movies & the writer of the books they are only making 7 Movies in total since there are only going to be 7 Books in total. Emma only has 2 more Movies to do then after that she is all done & can go back to a semi-normal life or go onto other roles if she wants to continue her Movie Career if she wants that life.

Yeah I have to agree Natalie filmed the Star Wars movies in the summers and went to school the rest of the year. Durning her school year she also made time for Star Wars reshoots and press for the movies at the same time as her final exams! Wow

Emma can do something like that or even do college classes online or get herself a tutor so can work on the set. It could work if she wanted it to.

I think the concern with her would be leading a normal life. I would imagine that having spent so much time on the movies from such a young age that she has missed out on a lot of different things. Maybe she just wants to be a normal kid for once in her life.

Emma needs to stay on - it won't be the same without her - and she owes her popularity and riches (though not her cuteness ) to this franchise.

It was confirmed a while ago that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) are all staying on for the last 2 films in the "Harry Potter" Saga.

Thank goodness. Like others have said, I don't think the rest of the films would be the same without her.

I'm glad she's staying for the last two movies. It wouldn't be the same without her playing Hermione
