No one knows Gossip Girl's identity, but everyone in this exclusive and complicated vicious circle relies on her website and text messages for the latest scoop. Even Serena's closest friend, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester, "Entourage"), is surprised to find that Serena has suddenly ended her self-imposed exile to boarding school and returned to Manhattan. Once the Upper East Side's most notorious party girl, Serena's reasons for returning are mysterious, although they may have something to do with her younger brother Eric (Connor Paolo, "Alexander"). Whatever the reasons, the change in Serena is obvious, especially to Blair, whose friendship with Serena has always been competitive and difficult. When Serena was out of the picture, Blair enjoyed her time in the spotlight and she has no intention of going back to living in Serena's shadow. Their uneasy relationship is further complicated by Blair's boyfriend Nate (Chace Crawford, "The Covenant"), a young man uneasy with all the privileges that have been handed to him by his high-powered father Howie "The Captain" Archibald (Sam Robards, "The West Wing"). Now that Serena is back, Blair will have to fight to hold onto Nate's attention. It also remains to be seen whether Blair's loyal lieutenants -- Katy (newcomer Nan Zhang) and Isabel (newcomer Nicole Fiscella) -- will remain by her side or break ranks to follow Serena. The tension between Blair and Serena isn't lost on anyone in this crowd, since they all live for gossip and scandal -- along with fashion, shopping and partying in Manhattan's trendiest hot spots. This is a world you have to be born into, full of wealth, power, and people like Chuck (Ed Westwick, "Children of Men"). A friend of Nate's since childhood, Chuck leads a reckless life, and constantly pushes Nate to explore his dark side. The proverbial fish-out-of-water at the prep school are Dan (Penn Badgley, "John Tucker Must Die," "The Bedford Diaries") and his sister Jenny (Taylor Momsen, "Paranoid Park," "How The Grinch Stole Christmas"), middle-class kids whose background keeps them on the fringes of this exclusive clique. Dan and Jenny are attending the school at the insistence of their father Rufus (Matthew Settle, "Into The West"), a former rocker turned art gallery owner, determined to give his kids a first-class education. Rufus has a history with Serena's mother Lily (Kelly Rutherford, "Melrose Place"), a socialite who hides her past as a dancer and rock groupie. When a chance encounter brings Dan to Serena's attention, he suddenly finds himself dating the girl of his dreams. The more Dan discovers about the real Serena, the more he's challenged to make sense of her world. Dan's sister Jenny is the youngest of the group and wants desperately to be accepted. The price she'll have to pay for popularity will take a toll, but at the moment, Jenny is just thrilled to have entry into this glamorous world. Dan and Serena's relationship is further complicated by the arrival of Dan's friend Vanessa, a Brooklyn rebel and loner who doesn't approve of Serena's world of money, fashion shows and fund raisers. Vanessa's attempts to pull him back to his roots will cause friction between Dan and Serena. Keeping track of the shifting friendships, jealousies and turmoil in this wealthy and complex world isn't easy, but it's what Gossip Girl does best. Filmed in New York and based on the popular series of young-adult novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, "Gossip Girl" is from Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Television Inc. with executive producers Josh Schwartz ("The O.C.") & Stephanie Savage ("The O.C."), Bob Levy, Leslie Morgenstein ("Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants") and Felicia Henderson ("The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"), and co-executive producer K.J. Steinberg ("The Nine"). |

It reminds me of Wagner's opus, Gotterdammerung. There is a fifteen year (actual ages) difference between Crawford and Amick - that should be interesting. I like the way you laid out the photos, MickBeth. |

Sources close to the soapy CW drama confirm that Holland will appear in at least three Gossip Girl episodes playing Agnes, a 16-year-old model for Eleanor Waldorf Designs. The character will cause problems for Taylor Momsen's Jenny Humphrey, most recently seen fulfilling the menial duties of a summer intern at EWD. After learning the downside of being Queen Bee last season, Jenny's trying to be good, but Agnes will attempt to lure her to the dark side. The 17-year-old Holland is no stranger to agitating the status quo on Josh Schwartz-produced dramas, having spent a little over a season as the jailbait replacement Kaitlin Cooper on The O.C. An experienced model and stepdaughter to Scarface director Brian DePalma, Holland's upcoming features include Chasing 3000 and Middle of Nowhere. Also joining the Gossip Girl cast is John Patrick Amedori, playing Aaron Rose. Fans of the Gossip Girl book series will recall that hippy-dippy Aaron becomes Blair's stepbrother and dates both Serena and Vanessa. For the purposes of the series, the character is being positioned as a love interest for Blake Lively's Serena, suggesting that the Blair-Dan reconciliation in the show's second season premiere may be short-lived. Credits for Amedori include a regular role on FOX's short-lived Vanished, as well as a supporting role in the feature Stick It. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 “The Ex-Files” (TV-14, LS) (HDTV) THERE’S A NEW GIRL IN TOWN — When Serena (Blake Lively) notices that Dan (Penn Badgley) has been cozying up to the new girl in school, Amanda (guest star Laura-Leigh), the ever-loyal Blair (Leighton Meester) and her minions decide to befriend Amanda and sabotage her budding new romance with “lonely boy.” Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) discovers a scandalous secret about Catherine (guest star Madchen Amick) and enlists Blair’s scheming expertise to use the information to help Nate (Chace Crawford). Meanwhile, Lily (Kelly Rutherford) finds herself drawn back to her ex, Rufus (Matthew Settle), once again. Taylor Momsen and Ed Westwick also star. Jim McKay directed the episode written by Robby Hull (#204). |

Hurt once again by Serena’s popularity and her mother’s betrayal, Blair decides to sabotage the show. You may have heard -- a pivotal Gossip Girl character will soon be laid to rest, setting off a series of aftershocks that will reverberate well into next year. By using both Met-step chatter and common sense, I narrowed the field of candidates to the following five characters -- one of whom, a source confirms -- is the victim. Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) Why She'll Die: As much as I adore Szohr, let's face it, her alter ego is easily the most expendable of Girl's core clique. As a bonus, eliminating Vanessa would get Gossip Girl author Cecily von Ziegesar off producers' backs. Why She Won't: Who'd steam everyone's lattes? Bart (Robert John Burke) Why He'll Die: His death would be a massive story generator: Not only would it pit Lily and Chuck against each other in a battle over the millionaire's estate, but it would add a new layer of angst to Ed Westwick's brooding scion. Why He Won't: Come on -- killing the old guy? Way too obvious. Nate (Chace Crawford) Why He'll Die: Rumor has it that Crawford recently made some noise about wanting a fatter paycheck. Killing off his character would nip a potential salary dispute in the bud. Why He Won't: He's the prettiest one on the show, for chrissakes! Rufus (Matthew Settle) Why He'll Die: It would rid the world of Lincoln Hawk and Dan would be forced to grow a pair. Why He Won't: His unrequited romance with Lily is where Gossip's true heart lies. Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) Why She'll Die: Everyone loves a good, old-fashioned murder mystery. Why She Won't: For starters, she's not currently on the show. Plus, producers would be foolish to permanently wipe out the Alexis to Serena's Krystle. Think you've got a handle on which one of the above five finalists is about to make a date with the Grim Reaper? Cast your vote in the comments section below! Bart (Robert John Burke) is not a big player either and wouldn't be missed that much. Nate (Chace Crawford) - no way would they get rid of half their audience. That leaves Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and Rufus (Matthew Settle); I'm betting on the latter especially since Vanessa and Jenny seemed to be befriending each other in the last episode and Dan will be heading off to college soon. |
