as SERENA VAN DER WOODSEN

Blake Lively stars as Serena van der Woodsen in The CW's new drama "Gossip Girl," from Josh Schwartz ("The O.C."), based on the tremendously popular book series about privileged teenagers who attend an elite private school in New York City.

Lively has quickly become one of the most sought-after young actresses in Hollywood. Last summer, Lively starred in Universal's summer comedy "Accepted," alongside Justin Long and directed by Steve Pink. She made her big-screen debut in Warner Bros.' "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," for which she earned a "Breakthrough Performance" nomination at the "2005 Teen Choice Awards."

Lively recently completed production on the independent feature "Elvis & Annabelle," starring opposite Max Minghella and Mary Steenburgen, as well as the sequel to "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants."

She was also honored at the December 2006 Hollywood Life Breakthrough Awards. She graduated from high school last spring and resides in Los Angeles.

That's great MickBeth. I taped it last night and watched it a little while ago. That dress must have been well taped down on top as it hardly moved when Blake did contrary to what the skirt did later in the program.

The masthead is quite impressive; good work.

Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but is the color palette for forums rather limited?

BTW, the character name is Serena van der Woodsen, "van der" if I'm not mistaken is Dutch meaning "of the" or "from the", i.e., she is Serena of the Woodsen family.

Blake Lively just turned 21, but she still seems stuck in the '20s.

The Gossip Girl starlet and all her castmates celebrated with a 1920s-themed bash at the Palace Hotel, natch. The birthday girl planned the entire soiree herself.

"I love to plan parties," Blake told Life & Style. "That would be my career if I wasn't an actress."

Soulful singer Michael Bublé serenaded her with a special version of "Happy Birthday to You," while guests downed peach mimosas.

Lively, who doesn't like to drink, toasted with Coca-Cola, instead of the other bubbly beverage.

And any news about Penn Badgley, with whom she's linked both on and off camera?

"They were very cozy," according to an onlooker.
