Now I maybe deluded in my opinion since I watched it in a day, but anyone get the sense that as hard as this show tries to be envelope-pushing, racy, and stylistically innovative, it ends up as melodrama and saccarine morality?. The acting and writing are overdone(this is probably one of the worst casts i've seen put together even with familiar faces from Oz/Deadwood). The plot is sloppily stitched together from a series of implausible occurrences. And to justify Dexter's vigilantism, the writers are forced to create one-dimensional "evil" characters that seduce the audience into desiring their torture and murder. So at the end it just feels contrived like a CSI season with a vigilante of sum sorts. I don't know... Can anybody show me where's the love coming from for this show? |

The writing is sublime, the original novels are excellent, and the cast are superb... Michael C Hall from Six Feet Under is perfect as Dexter, Julie Benz is beautifully understated, and so so different to Buffy & Angel's Darla, Jennifer Carpenter is sexily awkward and potty mouthed as Deb (plus she was startlingly good in the Exorcism of Emily Rose) and Jaime Murray as psycho Brit sexpot Lila is literally to die for. Can't wait for season 3 :P |
