Read this article ******************* 'Summerland' Premiere Makes WB Feel Fine LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - No one knows yet whether the idea of year-round television programming, including original dramas and comedies, will really fly at the networks. The first scripted series of this summer, however, is off to a decent start. "Summerland," which premiered Tuesday (June 1) on The WB, set network records for a summertime debut among total viewers and the network's core audience of teens and young adults. The two-hour pilot brought in about 4.6 million viewers -- better than all but one of the series The WB introduced last season. ("Tarzan" premiered to more than 5 million viewers but quickly faded.) The total-viewer number is also higher than the season averages for regular Tuesday-night occupants "Gilmore Girls" (4.1 million) and "One Tree Hill" (3.5 million). "Summerland" obviously has yet to prove any staying power, but its audience did grow somewhat from its first to its second hour. The premiere also helped The WB win the night among teenage viewers and finish second to NBC among persons 12-34, its core audience. Across the board, "Summerland" is the highest-rated summer premiere in The WB's history, which includes the August 1996 debut of "7th Heaven." "Summerland" stars Lori Loughlin as a fashion designer with a new business getting off the ground and a fantastic beach house she shares with three roommates. That life gets thrown for a loop when her sister and brother-in-law are killed in an accident and she becomes guardian to their three kids. http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve...559|1|,00.html |
