LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Singer/actress Brandy, who starred in the 1990s UPN sitcom "Moesha," is headed to rival WB for a comedy that will explore the life of a young woman after she hits 25.
Brandy will play a die-hard New Yorker who moves to Los Angeles to take a job as an entertainment editor. The pilot for the untitled project will be written by "Girlfriends" creator Mara Brock Akil.
Akil first met Brandy and her brother, actor Ray J, on "The Sinbad Show" where Ray J was a cast member and Akil was production assistant.
"They both told me that I was going to be huge in this business," Akil said. "They believed in me when I was answering phones -- I've never forgotten that."
Akil, Brandy and Ray J's paths crossed again a few years later when Akil was a rookie writer on "Moesha," which ran from 1996 to 2001.
"I truly believe that Brandy deserves a wonderful platform to return to television," Akil said. "I'd like to be the one who gives her next big hit."
Brandy's other TV credits include the 1997 musical "Cinderella," in which she played the title character. "Girlfriends," meanwhile, is in its sixth season on UPN.
