Entertainment announced Tuesday that they are merging The WB Network and UPN to create a new network to be called The CW. The network, which will launch in September, will be owned jointly by Warner Bros. and CBS Corp., with each company owning a 50 percent stake in the network. Tribune Co., which had owned a stake in The WB, will become an affiliate of the new network but won't own a stake. Tribune has signed a 10-year affiliation agreement with the new network. UPN President Dawn Ostroff will become president of entertainment of the new network, while John Matta, chief operating officer of The WB, will become chief operating officer of The CW. Tribune's 16 major-market stations and the 12 CBS-owned UPN stations will give The CW immediate coverage of 48 percent. The remaining distribution will be a combination of selected UPN and WB affiliates that is expected to exceed 95 percent of the United States. On the programming side, The CW will have a six-night, 13-hour prime-time lineup seven days a week, using a combination of programming from both UPN and The WB. The lineup of programs in the new network's lineup will be described later, according to the announcement. http://www.tvweek.com/news.cms?newsId=9255 |

There both looseing shows. Likely to stay (WB)Gilmore Girls (WB)Supernatural (WB)Reba (WB)Twins (WB)Smallville (WB)Beauty and the Geek (UPN)Next Top Model (UPN)Veronica Mars (UPN)WWE's "Smackdown (UPN)Girlfriends (UPN)EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS (UPN)ALL OF US (UPN)HALF & HALF (UPN)One on One That list includes one half hour less then there is in primetime, 8-10pm. I dont like most of that list. What I really dont like is it leaves a lot less room for some new shows. [ January 24, 2006, 02:33 PM: Message edited by: open32 ] |

One thing I can't figure out since it's not stated is since they are merging does that mean both the original network channel numbers(since most people have a Channel just for UPN & for WB) will be pulled completely & make a new network channel number or will it stay the same? What I mean by that is that UPN is on Channel 30 for me & since that is the same channel that WB runs on from 10pm-12am will that be the channel number when they merge or will it be Channel 'New Number'? |

It would be different for everybody. More populated locations (cities) have more broadcast stations, I get 11. My UPN is channel 4, which plays some WB shows after 12 at night. My WB channels are 14 and 15 from 8-10 they play the same things but local news is different and so is day time tv. One plays South (Miami) News the other North (Palm Beach). All 3 are broadcast which means I can get this without cable. I'm not positive about what will happen to my 3 stations if they become one, my guess is that all 3 stations will play the same thing. I also have 2 Fox and ABC channels. Possibly more local programing will come on, one Fox station plays a local reality show called Miami Talent one day a week in prime time and a show called Deco Drive at 7pm. The ABC stations simply play the same thing all day long with the exception of local news. |

Your right, 87% of the US gets WB, that leaves a lot of people that dont, the combined station will reach 95%. Quote:
