LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - It's big, brash and bullet-bound. This new reality television series, "Dallas SWAT," is exactly what the title promises: a nonstop action-adventure brought to you by the folks from the Dallas Police Department's SWAT Team. Each week we're privy to a few more hair-raising episodes from as the guys pack ammo, storm houses and generally keep Dallas safe from the big guns out of control.
As the press release says, it's all about "murder, drug busts and searching for missing persons." In short, it's all about what SWAT teams do best: hunt down danger. They never know where it's coming from. It might be a murder suspect holed up in his house; it might be a high-stakes negotiation to coax out a bad guy.
The series, from the producers of "The First 48," profiles real members of the Dallas Police SWAT team, men who takes their jobs seriously and put their lives on the line constantly. But the real guts of the show is talk about bravado, ammunition and getting the best position to take in a suspect. It's pumped up on testosterone and ready to explode at any second. This is reality TV for those who are tired of the mundane. On the other hand, it looks an awful lot like many cop dramas on the air. It would seem, then, that the line separating reality and fiction has disappeared. |
