LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The ABC Family cable channel said Wednesday it has given an eight-episode order to the reality series "Kicked Out," in which parents show the door to their slacker twentysomething kids.
The project is set to go into production Monday and premiere in August. Each half-hour episode centers on a family that is tired of their kid lounging around at home with no money, no job and no future.
"Time magazine recently dedicated a cover story to this phenomenon of 'twixters,' adult-aged kids who haven't yet grown up," said Kate Juergens, senior vp original series programing and development at ABC Family. "When we were approached with the idea for this show, we were eager to explore this generation in transition and their family dynamics."
"Kicked Out" will have elements of both comedy and drama as well as an emotional component, said Jim Berger, the CEO of the show's Denver-based producer High Noon Entertainment.
"It shows a life transformation that doesn't happen just with the twentysomething but with the parents as well," he said.
