My, my, my... Paramount opened a can of words yesterday when press copies of the forthcoming Cloverfield DVD arrived in mailboxes (including ours). Before we get into some of the new clues and viral marketing that have cropped up because of this release, let's take a quick look at the two alternate endings the disc presents.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Both present the exact same ending with Rob and Beth whimpering in the tunnel before the bombs drop and nuke the monster.

Alternate ending #1 substitutes the ferris wheel coda for some footage on the subway platform featuring Rob chasing Beth around before their trip to Coney Island.



Alternate ending #2, as director Matt Reeves explains in his commentary, suggests that Rob and Beth may have been rescued and also gives the viewer a chance to see the moment the camera was found. Below you get a glimpse of a man cleaning Rob's camera lens post-destruction... Otherwise, no other new footage, per se.

Now, onto the speculation. A symbol (seen below) has been making the rounds on various Cloverfield sites - including Tagruato. This same symbol adorns the security sticker sealing the DVD and is accompanied by a "Property of the U.S. Government" stamp. What's it mean? Beats us. Is it simply one more layer to this film's secrets? It's obviously a sword of sorts - what does the "410" stand for? Release date for Cloverfield 2, perhaps?



In addition to these images and clues, the extra features reveal a new website that has yet to be launched, which I'm sure will have plenty of clues hiding within it. Mark it in your bookmarks and keep your eyes peeled to Cloverfieldfiles.com

Also something important to note is that on the extra features the creature designer confirms that the monster is in fact an infant. Could we see the mother in the sequel? Can you imagine how big she is?!

i managed to get the dvd already and the only thing i've seen on it are the movie along with the commentary, the deleted scenes and extended scenes and the alternate endings. i haven't managed to see the whole creature design featurette, just the first 2 minutes of it but now i need to fully see it.

i was dissapointed in the dvd all together. there really isn't a thing added except for the so called clues. no background was said on the monster and the commentary didn't really give any insight into the creature or where it came from. it was all just "this is how i did this" and "this is how i did that" and background on where the idea for the movie came from. i was surprised to find out that steven spielberg gave some advice for the ending of the movie. he suggested that they include air raid alarms to give the movie a more dreadful feel. a sense of a countdown like the director said. as for the alternate scenes i would suggest freezing the 2nd alternate take and slowly going frame by frame. there is commentary for both alternate endings and the director really doesn't say that it's robb and beth being found but just the camera.

Apparently some pictures have appeared on the web, which are the first from CLOVERFIELD 2. I don't think so, but as Bernard Hopkins taught me recently, I am frequently wrong and so I'll present them to you just in case. I have no idea how people found THIS site, but I think it is the final leg of the whole CLOVERFIELD online viral extravaganza. Anyway, some awesome hacker guy figured out how to get inside it.

We've heard Matt Reeves say he's doing THE INVISIBLE WOMAN next, and like I said, I think these are just the remnants of everything that was done for the first CLOVERFIELD movie coming to and end with the DVD release. Curiously though, the PAGE does bare the same symbol I was sure I saw on one of the ALADYGMA pages.
