Final weekend figures released by Media by Numbers on Monday indicated that the latest Batman sequel grossed $26.1 million over the weekend to keep it at No. 1 for the fourth consecutive week. It has now grossed $441.32 million, or about $20 million short of Star Wars' achievement. However, it's far behind the George Lucas classic when inflation is taken into account. If tickets in 1977, when Star Wars came out, had cost what they do today, the movie would have earned $1.23 billion -- an amount The Dark Knight has no chance of equaling. (When adjusted for inflation the top film of all time is Gone With the Wind, which would have made $1.26 billion in today's dollars.) Analysts also suggest that it has no chance of equaling the $600 million (unadjusted for inflation) that Titanic took in a decade ago. Indeed Warner Bros. distribution chief Dan Fellman conceded as much in an interview appearing in today's (Tuesday) Hollywood Reporter. "Titanic was once in a lifetime, and I don't think we'll ever have another gross like that in the history of the industry," Fellman said. IMDb, August 12, 2008. |

All i can say is it's far too bad that Health Ledger is dead, cause this movie demands a sequel with him in it..... If he does'nt win an Oscar for his performance, there's no justice... Totally agree! It's demands a theater screen. Last edited by RebelMan; 08-24-2008 at 01:07 AM.. |

Even so, its running total domestically is up to $489 million, which means it could hit that elusive $500 million mark by Labor Day. That amount has only been seen once before domestically, by James Cameron's Titanic, which made more than twice "Dark Knight's" weekend gross in its own sixth weekend. Internationally, The Dark Knight added another $34 million from 7,700 theaters in 62 markets. The overseas total has hit $381.2 million and the film has reached $870.4 million worldwide, climbing to 15th on the all-time worldwide blockbuster list. |

Pictures' The Dark Knight has now officially surpassed Spider-Man to become the biggest comic book movie of all time. The Christopher Nolan sequel has reached $492.689 million domestically while Spider-Man hit a total of $491.952 when you look at the inflated number ($403.7 million without inflation). Looking at the worldwide numbers, Variety says The Dark Knight will reach $900 million this weekend: Crossing the $400 million milestone will place "The Dark Knight" in a club with only 29 other films. What's equally impressive about the sixth Batpic is that it's first in the series to generate a blockbuster number outside the U.S. "Batman Begins" generated the previous high number with a relatively modest $166 million. The U.K. has led the way for "Dark Knight" with $86 million, followed by Australia with $40 million, Mexico with $25 million, Brazil with $19 million and South Korea with $18.6 million. With Germany in its second weekend and France in its third, and worldwide grosses going past $900 million this weekend, the Batpic may have enough firepower to become only the fourth film to hit $1 billion in combined foreign and domestic box office (after "Titanic," the third "The Lord of the Rings" and the second "Pirates of Caribbean"). And did you participate in the viral marketing campaign for the movie that was created by 42 Entertainment? If so, you'll enjoy this interview with the company's CEO Susan Bonds and CCO Alex Lieu. |

"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a source told the trade. Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with IMAX executives about the prospect of restoring the film to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It's uncertain if The Dark Knight also will reappear in conventional theaters at that point. To date, the film has earned about $513 million domestically and $440 million internationally, including more than $55 million in IMAX grosses. The DVD and Blu-ray Disc are expected to hit stores in December. |

Wouldn't surprsie me if they release 3 versions of the DVD(Director's Cut, Limited Editon or whatever). Last edited by Captain Beefheart; 09-11-2008 at 07:15 PM.. |

Source: Superhero Hype!, TheHDRoom.com September 26, 2008 Superhero Hype! has gotten its hands on a couple early images from the upcoming Blu-ray DVD for Christopher Nolan's record-setting action movie Dark Knight, which has grossed over $520 million domestically and another $450 million internationally. Although the standard commercial version of the Blu-ray release will probably have the same poster image of Batman standing in front of a building emblazoned with his logo, we've received an image of a Blu-ray cover featuring an image of Heath Ledger's Joker, and we also have a look at the insert of the Special Edition Blu-ray, which will be available at the same time. Our source that hooked us up with these imagies told us that the Blu-ray would include "BD Live" and that there would be a 3-disc version with the 3rd disc being a digital copy for iPod or other video player. http://superherohype.com/nextraimages/tdkbluray.jpg http://superherohype.com/nextraimages/tdkbrinsert.jpg UPDATE: We just received some more images of covers for the standard Dark Knight Blu-ray, as well as the packaging for a 2-Disc Batpod Limited Edition, from BDS23420: 2-Disc Batpod Special Edition http://www.thehdroom.com/images/bluray/large/4624.jpg 2-Disc Batpod Back Cover http://www.thehdroom.com/images/news/3526a.jpg Blu-ray Front Cover http://www.thehdroom.com/images/bluray/large/4459.jpg Blu-ray Back Cover http://www.thehdroom.com/images/bluray/back/4624.jpg Both Blu-ray Covers http://www.thehdroom.com/images/news/3526b.jpg If that isn't enough Dark Knight Blu-ray goodness, here's and advertisement for the DVD and Blu-ray release: http://www.dvdactive.com/images/news...tadvertpic.jpg (Thanks to BDS23420 and Nice Guy Joey for providing the images above.) Dark Knight is scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 9, 2008, and though it's not available to pre-order yet, you can keep an eye on it Amazon. |
