Disney to cut Films The Disney Corporation has announced it will cut back on making movies for theatrical distribution. They currently make 18 movies per year on average for the last several years. They announced they will now make 7, a serious cutback. The 7 movies would include all brands, Touchstone, Pixar, Buena Vista, Disney, and Miramax. The reason is they have lately not been making money on many of there big budget movies, both animated and live action. This is due to very high budgets needed to compete as a big blockbusters and less then expected box office takes at both the high and low budget movies.
Warner Bros. may follow suit in cutting back on movies after having 2 big back to back under performers, they currently average 21 movies per year.
