UPDATE New "Lord of the Rings" DVDs in August

Home Media Retailing reports that New Line Home Entertainment will release two-disc "Limited Edition" sets of "The Fellowship of the Ring," "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King" with an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary on August 29:

For each film, disc one presents both the theatrical version of the film and its extended edition through seamless branching, while disc two features an intimate, never-before-seen documentary created by Costa Botes. The feature-length documentaries, with more than 300 minutes of never-before-available footage, focus on a number of complexities and circumstances and affected the making of the movies.

Looks like they're going the way of Star Wars with LOTR releases. But now why can they fit the extended cut on one disc here and not for the previous extended cut releases? I hate having to change discs. Ruins the flow.

I won't be buying this, though. Documentary...meh...the stuff on the extended releases is way more than enough. It's way more than 300 minutes as well.

Yeah I don't get it either. You're right sitting there watching it for well over an hour & thirty mins then you have to get up & change discs; stupid.

Depending on how much these new sets are going to be depends on if I buy them or not.

after king kong i really don't wanna give any more money to peter jackson. but then i look at the frieghtners and it almost changes my mind. but i'm thinking it was all part of the plan. there will be hardcore fans of the movies that are gonna want a seamless flow of the movie where they don't have to get up and change discs and they will buy them. i'm still thinking about it but it depends on the price and if it's low i'll just use my discount to get it.

All 3 Movies will be just 2 Discs.
