Bulgarian soparno Ghena Dimitrova sang the role of Turandot without showing an ounce of emotion. Italian soprano Cecilia Gasdia was fabulous in the role of Liu (although her gap-toothed mount was a bit distracting.) Italian tenor Nicola Martinucci was adequate in the role of Calaf (both Pavarotti and Domingo were much better). |

This is the story of the largest counterfeiting operation in history run by the Nazis during WWII. Jewish POWs were forced to produce British pound sterling and American dollars and other documents in an effort to destabilize the allied currencies. |

This production from the Metropolitan Opera in New York features Teresa Stratas in the role of Violetta, Placido Domingo as Alfredo with James Levine conducting. It was written, directed and designed by the incomparable Franco Zeffirelli. The story is based on the work of Alexandre Dumas, La Dame aux Camilias. The costuming and sets are fabulous. |

This is by far the most popular Italian opera. A modern version of this opera was recently made called "Rent". |
