| What are your impressions of the results, and the show? Billy Crystal did a good job hosting. Will Ferrel and Jack Black were by far the best presentors. Results at IMDB, as always. LOTR won 11 academy awards, equalling the record of Titanic and Ben Hur. Ken Watanabe should have won for best supporting actor. Good that Sofia Coppola won for screenplay. Interesting that the Coppolas have won Oscars in three generations, now. Sean Penn was also deserving of best actor for Mystic River. |

| Boring, completely predictable and definitely not worth me staying up for. Quote:
Apart from that one win and Jack Black the show was very crappy.

| Good lord that was a boring show; nothing interesting, no surprises, boring laundry list type speeches, blecky. Some random thoughts: ~The only minor surprise was Lord of the Rings winning for Best Adapted Screenplay. ~The Triplets of Belleville performance was pretty rad. ~Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie both looked frickin hawt. :D ~I too wished the Best Actor award could have been a tie. What are the chances Bill Murray will be nominated again? :( ~I never really liked Billy Crystal...and still don't. ~Jack Black and Will Ferrel were good. I wanna marry Jack Black. ~I had a revelation while watching the Oscars....Katherine Hepburn is overated. She's had the opporunity to work on films with great screenplays and that's about it. She's a commanding presence and natural in front of the camera, but not very versatile, much like say a Denzel Washington or a Julia Roberts. Thank you. ~Did I mention Johnny and Angelina look HaWt?? ~The nicest moment of the oscars happened right before the show started at the end of the pre-show on ABC, when Billy Bush introduced Keisha Castle Hughes to Johnny Depp. She'd said that he was the one person he wanted to meet because he's a "studd". It was so cute. ~Uhhh...what else? Has anyone actually seen Monster? Was Charlize Theron that good? I dunno why I'm so skeptical about it. From the clips she didn't seem that good. I guess I shouldn't judge from clips though. I didn't see any of the female performances, but i I were choosing from the clips I've seen I would have picked Naomi Watts. I guess I'll wait until I see all the movies. That's it I guess. [ March 01, 2004, 06:55 AM: Message edited by: BoredJen ] |

I'm happy that Charlize won for best female, but I think that Johnny should have won best male. Mystic River was not a good movie IMO. It was boring *yawn*

| Awards shows are always boring. I think the presentors had better writing than usual. John Travolta, Adrian Brody, Jim Carrey were all funny (When isn't Jim Carrey.) ;) I still think that Ken Watanabe got robbed. Also, Charlize Theron's performance was very good, but Naomi Watts' was better. I think it was mainly for how Charlize changed her look around, and her dedication to the character. Peter Jackson did not deserve an academy award for best director - Fernando Meirelles did. Anyone who has seen Cidade de Deus will agree with me. | LOTR..That was not a shocker. Theron was amazing. She earned it. For all of you guys that said that Johnny Depp should have won, I beg to Differ. Sean Penn was a breath of fresh air. He is one of the best actors in Hollywood. He has been passed up too many times. The funniest part to me was when Adrien Brody, sprayed breath freshner, before saying the best actress. I laughed my butt off :D |

As for the show...boring, crappy, boring crap. I've never found Billy Crystal to be funny, neither is Jim Carrey. I think Billy's comments to Bill after Sean Penn won were tacky, as if he's saying "I know you were robbed, Bill, so let's force the entire audience to applaud you so you stop acting like self-centered prick." I really can't comment on the winners because I haven't seen the other nominated films.

| Peter Jackson won for ROTK, but he really won for the accomplishment of all 3 films. I guess major epic trilogies won't be given major awards until the end of the series. Its really just one 9 hour movie cut into 3 parts, so he got an award for directing the best trilogy of all time, not just for ROTK. If the award had to go to a director for the best movie of the year and ONLY the best movie of the year, which excludes FOTR and TTT, then Dennis and Taake may be right, and PJ didn't deserve it for ROTK on it's own. But he deserved a Director's Oscar for his accomplishment, he really did. Didn't see Mystic River, but it sure looked as if Sean Penn deserves the award. I wish it went to Bill Murray (aka: God :D ), but the best actor won this year. :( I was amazed by Lost in Translation, so I wish it received more awards. The music was pretty cool as well, and Scarlett Johannsen should have got more praise this year. Renee Zellweger should never win an award because she can't act. She attaches herself to films where lots of better actors surround her. She looks good because the "good" actors surrounding her make her movies look good, like in Chicago. However, she DOES play a "fat girl" well.... ;p PS: Will Ferrell and Jack Black are awesome. Billy Crystal passed his comedic prime while still in the womb.
