| I was really expecting to be dissapointed tonight but the british academy (yet again) proved that they have taste Apart from best film most awards went to the right films/people. It was lovely seeing Peter Weir win Best Director . Best film Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Best British film Touching the Void Best director Peter Weir - Master and Commander Best actor in a leading role Bill Murray - Lost in Translation Best actress in a leading role Scarlett Johansson - Lost in Translation Best actor in a supporting role Bill Nighy - Love Actually Best actress in a supporting role Renee Zellweger - Cold Mountain Orange Film of the Year (Audience award) The Return of the King Best film not in the English language In This World Original screenplay The Station Agent Adapted screenplay The Return of the King Carl Foreman Award (for special achievement by a British director/producer/writer in their first feature film) Emily Young - Kiss of Life Short animation Jojo in the Stars Short film Brown Paper Bag Make Up & Hair Pirates of the Caribbean Visual Effects The Return of the King Sound Master and Commander Editing Lost in Translation Costume design Master and Commander Production design Master and Commander Cinematography The Return of the King Music Cold Mountain As for the ceremony... Stephen Fry did such an incredible job presenting. He was SOOO funny. Some of my fave moments were when he read out his mom's opinions of the best picture nominees and also Sofia Coppola reading the fax from Bill Murray. That was hilarious. It would be great if they let Stephen present the oscars this year. The most gorgeous looking celebs tonight were Renee Zellwegger (she looked stunning.. the best she's ever looked) and Jude Law. Johnny was hot but apart from smiling once or twice he looked pretty angry most of the time. Another thing I noticed was that whenever LOTR won something, for some reason, the camera would cut to Johnny's reaction and he just sat their looking dissapointed Best Speech of the night: Bill Murray (read out by Sofia Coppola) |

Loved those "reviews" by his mother and the Pearl Harbor joke particularly, but poor Jon Voight, he took it in good heart though! And Stephen and Ian McKellen's kiss was sweet. I have to disagree about Renee; she looked like an angry hamster. But agree about Bill Murray's fax, very funny; Benicio Del Toro seemed amused and he looked very handsome. (Josh, Johnny and Benicio; that film HAS to happen!!). |

| Renee always looks like an angry hamster. Her face looks like she's had one too many plastic surgeries. It looks like she has to try really hard to make a smile.. I haven't seen it though, but it does sound funny. I'm jealous :( |

| Lol I saw it and yeah your right, Sofia reading out Bill's fax was soo funny. Stephen Fry is a top man...lol he cracks me up. I noticed the same thing about Johnny though, he didn't look so happy!..but Jude looked fantastic, sooo handsome! I think Master and Commander was a little overrated at these awards though |

| :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I haven't seen the movie (It looks boring) but I love Peter Weir so I had no objection to him winning best director. Quote:
Kate, Did they really show Jon Voight's reaction? I missed that :( I was busy laughing and then feeling guilty afterwards I don't think Alicia Silverstone looked too happy with the way Stephen mentioned Batman and Robin when introducing her (what else could he have said?). She looked embarrased. BTW I didn't realise Sofia was such a hard name to pronounce. I can't remember who it was but someone called her Sofa Not sure but I think it was Holly Hunter (who also looked really great) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: | |
