"After 5 months in Vancouver I leave for the Austin Film Festival (of course THEY pay for the flight) deep in Texas and while jogging through the streets of the city I think to myself how lucky I am for not living in Texas. What a dry, dusty and somewhat boring city.
More than 300 visitors attend the screening of BLOODRAYNE. Nobody leaves, quite a few people applaud and talk with me about the movie afterwards. So do Harry Knowles, a film critic from the internet, and his henchmen. Despite being overly benignant while speaking to me and an audience which obviously received the movie very well, they later publish slating reviews on their website. Harry is so fat his father has to push his wheelchair to the screening room and he isn't even 30 yet.
And Quint, Harry's partner, probably weighes in with 120 kilogrammes. I kind of pity them but I realize they will never support my work, much less than appreciating it. I manage to produce big Hollywood films outside the Hollywood system and all those freaks on the internet can't seem to deal with that because it forces them to think about how miserably they failed themselves. I am an easy target for them because I openly talk to everyone in interviews or on my visits to big and small festivals, where I promote my movies. My biggest strength is my biggest weakness. On the other hand only 1% of the audience read reviews on the internet, therefore I prefer to live with the bashing and nitpicking by those would-be filmmakers than becoming an arrogant Hollywood-businessman." |
