While Will Ferrel hasn't signed on for Elf 2 yet, New Line has hired screenwriter Scot Armstrong to start work on the sequel. He was the last writer to do an uncredited rewrite on the original film, which grossed $173 million in its 2003 release.
Variety says that although the studio has long hoped to tap Armstrong to write the sequel, he has only begun work on the script in the past month.
After the failure of Son of the Mask, New Line production president Toby Emmerich has said he would go forward with pricey sequels only if original stars are involved. |
