| Gene Wilder slams Wonka bosses Gene Wilder has slammed film bosses for remaking 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' - saying they are just cashing in on the original. . The 71-year-old actor, who starred as the eccentric confectionary maker in the original version of the film, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', has confessed he doesn't understand why they thought it necessary to do a remake. Wilder said: "It's all about money It's just some people sitting around thinking, 'How can we make some more money?' Why else would you remake 'Willy Wonka'? I don't see the point of going back and doing it all over again". The new version, which will see Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp take over the much-loved role, is scheduled for release this summer. But the star says he isn't pointing his anger at the cast of the new movie, adding: "I like Johnny Depp, and I appreciate that he has said on record that my shoes would be hard to fill. "But I don't know how it will all turn out. Right now, the only thing that does take some of the edge off this for me is that Willy Wonka's name isn't in the title" |

I think it's a great idea to remake classics personally. A whole new generation of movie goers can appreciate it now. I kind of agree that they're just doing it for money. Tim Burton has done nothing good recently and is trying to win us back. If it wasn't for the fact that this new version looks like a tripped up version of the old one, I'd just say he was doing another adaptation of the novel instead of a remake of the movie. But from what I understand, there is more from the novel in this movie.

And you don't remake any good movie. Or at least you shouldn't. People with very large egos are watching classic movies and thinking to themselves, "Wow, fantastic film. Absolutely wonderful.....perfect storytelling. We should remake it ourselves!!" Pure ego.

People remake songs, make plays into movies, make movies into plays. If people are so opposed to remaking things, just don't fork out the money to see it. |

People can just deal with it, or don't go see it. Of course they are doing it to make money. It's called the entertainment business. Businesses want to make money. :D |

| Well Roald Dahl, the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, hated the original movie saying it strayed too far from the novel. (As it happens with all book to film adaptations.) As I understood, Dahl's family pushed for a remake that was more true to the novel. So in essence, this movie is more of another adaptation to the novel than a remake of the original movie. That said, I completely agree that they're just trying to cash in on a classic, but that's just how Hollywood works. |
