Axl Says Chinese Democracy will drop this Fall

NEW YORK - Rock recluse Axl Rose made a surprise radio appearance to proclaim that Guns N Roses 10-years-in-the-making “Chinese Democracy” album will finally hit store shelves this fall.

The comments Saturday on Eddie Trunk’s syndicated radio show marked the first interview the painfully private Rose has given since his failed 2002 comeback tour, which was abruptly scrapped midway amid riots and canceled shows.

Roses impromptu appearance came when former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, who was co-hosting the show, called Rose’s cell phone and patched the call through the studio.

Quizzed on when the near-mythical album would come out, Rose said, “Sometime this fall or late fall.” His band could be heard rehearsing in the background. “It will be out this year.”

Trunk invited Rose to drop by the studio, and about an hour later he did.

Asked about the aborted 2002 comeback tour, which ended when Rose failed to appear for a gig in Philadelphia, Rose told Trunk he felt pressured into doing it before he was ready. But he insisted he has no regrets, since the short-lived tour helped the new band members to gel. (The 2002 lineup included keyboard player Dizzy Reed from the original GNR, former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck, bassist Tommy Stinson from the Replacements, guitar shredder Buckethead, drummer Brian “Brain” Mantia, formerly of Primus, guitarist Richard Fortus from the former Psychedelic Furs and Love Spit Love, and keyboard player Chris Pittman.)

“Can you tell people why the tour ended at that point?” asked Trunk.

“Umm, no, not exactly,” said Rose, declining to discuss it.

Plans are currently in the works for Rose to relaunch his comeback by playing four shows at New Yorks Hammerstein Ballroom over the next 10 days, then head to Europe to play several music festivals.

Rose said the band at the Hammerstein shows will be similar to the one that played the 2002 tour, except for a new lead guitarist, whom he declined to identify except to say it’s not an old GNR member. Buckethead left the band in 2004.

However, later in the broadcast, Rose seemed to contradict himself when he said he has been hobnobbing with former GNR guitarist and songwriter Izzy Stradlin, and strongly hinted that Stradlin may show up for the Hammerstein shows.

Former GNR guitar maestro Slash may end up back in the band as well, but probably not before the Hammerstein shows.

So, does anyone believe it's true this time, does anyone even care anymore?

Even if he somehow manages to get the original band back together (which I doubt, since Velvet Revolver has been successful and those guys know Axl is a ****) I still wouldn't be interested. Never really liked GNR anyway.

I love GNR, I know it won't be the same, but I still can't wait, I just wish it'd get here so I could move on.

first reviews are out about the show he just played... people liked him...he seemed energetic and upbeat while being very thankful

edt: no, seriously. Gotta be a joke. Buckethead having a KFC bucket on his frickin head was stupid enough- this would be Wile E Coyote stupid. A HYBID OF A BEE AND A FOOT??!

I can just see axl going up to whoevers producing chinese democracy now- "Hi, I just want to do some overdubs before we're ready to release this $13million, 12 year in the making album. Yeah, I know I said this before, and that Ive wasted what should have been the most sucessful years of my life, not to mention whats left of my youth, adjusting this album to get it just perfect, but thats over with now, man, now that IVE GOT BUMBLEFOOT AND HIS MAGICAL F**KING BEE/FOOT GUITAR??!

Yeah, I know, judge on music, dont be a keyboard warrior etc.. and you're right. But just try and deny that Bumblefoot and his "guitar modelled to look like a hybrid between a bee and a foot" doesnt sound like something off of Austin Powers.

Hey man, don't make fun of Buckethead. He's the most amazing guitarist and robot dancer. There is a beautiful soul behind the mask!

@Solo- I wouldnt bet either way.. too hard to judge

@Spoon- Guitar, robot dancing and nunchaku-wielding skills notwithstanding, the KFC bucket shtick is, lets be honest, daft beyond daft.

@BlackWolf's pic- the guy looks like fieldy from korn. The guitar.. looks even more stupid then I imagined, but in a different way. I thought it would at least be a well crafted kind of ridiculous, but that thing just looks like a teardrop guitar with a few toes glued to it.

And finally some good news:

Izzy Stradlin was reunited with Guns N' Roses for the first time in 15 years at their show in New York last night.

The guitarist joined the band towards the close of their fourth and final gig at the city's Hammerstein Ballroom, after Axl Rose introduced him from the stage.

Stradlin left the seminal line-up of the group in 1991 and rumours have been rife that he would play with them again during their long-awaited return to the world of rock in 2006.

Stradlin played on three songs - "Think About You", "Patience" and "Night Train" - having embraced the Gunners frontman amid a wild reaction from the crowd when he emerged, reports MTV.

Guns N' Roses are set to play a string of European shows this summer, including a headline date at the Download Festival and a one-off date at the Hammersmith Apollo on June 7.
