| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | U took a big risk in buying the albums. Are u freaking kidding me, judging by the bands i've heard u mentioned, APC pretty much walks the floor with them when it comes to arrangement, mood/balance, execution, concepts, lyrics, performance and I could go on forever. The new album is great, i've had it for awhile, there's alot of interesting talk at the Message Boards regarding the "concept of the album" and the Chasey Lane mention in the liner notes(Chasey Lane is ofcourse a porn star if you didn't know). Check Here Like "Mer De Mos" the record is quite "pro tooled" and sum of the arrangements are way to "clustered" for your average listener, in other words you really have to PAY attention to hear all the textures and things that are going on, the production sure doesn't help in comparison to their debut. In some respects the album has this continual ambience similar to that of Pink Floyd's/Crimson's stuff, albeit with a much different style of delivery. I thought Outsider, Blue, The Package and Lullaby were the strongest tracks on the CD. Maynard is great as always, and he pushes himself in a few new directions (including some falsetto in The Package that reminds me almost of Dave Matthews). His lyrics are as ambiguous as ever and i'm guessing that's why they're being questioned by pretty much everyone who actually takes care to listen to them and analyze them(or shall I say OVERanalze them?). Maynard obviously knows how to pick words that fit the music well. Billy's Gibson guitar tone is still here, too, the basslines are higher up the fretboard like Tool. And Josh Freese seems to have a more dominant role than in Mer de Noms tho not as interesting as Danny Carey's drumming within Tool As for the whole is it metal or not? I could careless really! I'd say APC it's pretty much one of the few bands that breathes new life into the current state of modern melodic rock(Trapt, Bizkit, Fuel, Staind, Linkin park[insert current trendy teenage angst band here] [ October 29, 2003, 04:25 PM: Message edited by: Captain Beefheart ] |

| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Pardon me then ;) It seems APC is getting tons of "promo/coverage" for this album, they're on a major label(Virgin)so that would be expected. I don't know if eMpTyV is playing "Weak and Powerless" but the single is getting alot of rotation in the radio according to Blender which gave them a 2 star review for Thirten Step, and don't even get me started on THAT, but as I see it, i'm not much worried, they gave the new Pink,, Obi Thrice, Mandy Moore, Darkness 4 stars and give Outkast 5 stars). How's that for insulting my intelligence! If you have Kazaa search around, there's TONS of multimedia(live videos interviews). There's a WHOLE concert from eMpTyV(281 MB!), AW as sum other *live appearances* on Conan, Kimmel and Killborn performing "Judith", "The Hollow" and "3 Libras" and sum Maynard interview from Much Music. At the same time I would advice you to download sum LIVE TOOL VIDEOS for "The Grudge", "Ticks and Leeches", "Eulogy", "Aenima", "46 and 2".
