Well, I finally tracked down the new Iced Earth album. I got the limited edition set with two discs. It includes all the songs from the U.S and European version. This is a VERY good album. Jon Schaffer is very passionate about history and his country, and it really shows. His rhythm playing is as solid as ever. Tim Owens actually does better than I expected, and at times kinda sounds like Barlow when he does his higher pitched vocals. Maybe because some of Barlow's vocals are still there in the background, but still... The absence of former lead guitarist Larry Tarnowski isn't very noticable. Well, for me, at least.
The booklet is very nice, too. Lyrics for all the songs and a nice portrait to go along with each one. Schaffer even goes in depth about writing the Gettysburg songs and has some blurbs about parts of each song. It's really cool.
Not much else I can say as of now. I'm still getting through it as I type this. I'm really looking forward to the supposed highlight, which is the "Gettysburg (1863)" trilogy of songs on the second disc. |
