| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Note to myself: Must get every Tori Amos release for tommorow. After watching her "Sound Stage" performance on PBS, i'm horrified about not being wise enuff not to have "explored" her material before. Though I've known about her music and liked her voice and mannerisms on her duet with Maynard on "Muhammed My Friend", it just kinda got overlooked in the purchasing plan. Do I feel foolish for waiting so long! YES! Thank god for PBS for the remind itself. The concert flows smoothly from start to finish and never succumbs to excessive self-pity, partly thanks to the strategic placement of a couple of less serious songs, but mostly because of Amos' skillful songwriting, unexpected breaks and great sense of dynamics. The songs themselves could be considered quite "monotonus" judging by the surface= Introspective songs featuring layered Kate Bush-esque vocals, clever and discreet string and guitar arrangements, unexpected songwriting twists and turns, and her dynamite piano playing. Though some criticize her for that aspect, I find each listen to this a treasure as it can seduce me into a very unique emotional place. If you ever had a soft spot for Tori and her music, try to get that "DVD" or just try to catch the performance itself. [Beefheart will probably EDIT tommorow since he's gone to watch "21 Grams" AGAIN ;) ] [ February 16, 2004, 07:34 PM: Message edited by: Captain Beefheart ] |

Maybe you've been listening to way to much Alanis *takes Jagged Little Pill cd away*. Isn't it ironic? Don't ya think? Tori Amos Soundstage Video Clips There ya go, just a little taste. Her band is awesome I forgot to mention that. The trio format is quite captivating. I actually like that Tori isn't competing with a guitar player for sonic space, these days. In a trio, there is more space, which I think has some advantages and some disadvantages, the good thing is that the interplay between the band members is often at it's best in a trio, because it's easier to communicate and make everyone pull in the same direction. :D [ February 16, 2004, 11:53 PM: Message edited by: Captain Beefheart ] |

| i haven't heard much from her, actually. though like every good TOOLophile...i of course have the maynard version of 'muhammad my friend'. he sounds great on there. i do also have that song "a sorta fairytale". and her version of the cure's "lovesong". be careful tough, beefy. she for some reason releas4ed a bunch of covers...i am not sure if they are full cover albums or not. she is good friends with maynard...that says it all. she's weird....ooooh that fiery red bush... |
