I seriously doubt any record released in 2004 will rival this as the 'album of the year'. It opens with what can only be described as an orgasmic musical explosion, with songs like "We Still Kill The Old Way", "To Hell We Ride", "Last Train Home" and "Burn, Burn" leading the way. Even UM can't deny the sheer pleasure and the grin on your face that appears when you turn up the speaker and let these tracks blast away. It is so obvious that these guys have gotten educated over the last three years of touring, and the technical aspect of the music is easily twice as good as on their debut album. "Start Something" gets deeper, mellower, as it goes on, adding a new layer to the Lostprophets already flexible skin. Before it goes out with another blast. I heard some early versions of a few of the songs, and I have to take my hat off for producer Eric Valentine, who has done a fantastic job on this album. Don't borrow this one from your friend, don't download it - get out and BUY IT. You won't regret it.

| you should be ashamed of yourself. these guys are pathetic. i am sick of anything that sounds remotely like nu metal. and i will murder anyone who tries to sound like Mike Patton. even Mike Patton doesn't sound like Mike Patton anymore. |

| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I heard the new single and sum other tunes from my students. First I must say that little clean arpeggio motif on the intro to the single sounds like they're trying to rip Blink's "What's My Age Again" and then playing sum sludgie riff crap on the chorus. As for the rest I was first struck by the complete lack of imagination and originality. This kind of "impressions" pap is nothing but a big joke on the record buying public. Empty calories for empty minds. Or maybe they're not going for uniqueness, and just trying to be melodic and combining it with silly riffage on top. If that were the case then I'd rather listen to something like Children of Bodom/In Flames, Pulse Ultra, System of a Down, Deftones, Taking Back Sunday, Thrice, Coheed and Cambria or Thursday, but then again I'm tired of those bands already, I hate formulaic music to be honest. I'll tell you one thing tho, instrumentally speaking they have more to offer than Lost Prophetz or whatever their name is. And heck who knows maybe they're better players that what I give them credit for. Which brings me to---> Quote:
IMO If there ever going to be a revival in *hard rock* somebody has to come around and do something innovative yet accessible and musical. When i figure out what that is , I'll let y'all know!!(Tool was probably one of the last few bands to do that in my opinion again ofcourse!). Rock for me has such a relatively limited palette anyway, that there's bound to be regurgitation sooner or later. Let's face it, much of the nu-metal around is bad turbocharged Sabbath riffs with rapping over the top. But whatever, as long as the music they write is important to you and has meaning and you can connect with it outside the "whiney-poses", then that's cool. Whether or not I like it matters not. [ February 03, 2004, 02:49 PM: Message edited by: Captain Beefheart ]

| I like the new album so far but I don't know if I would call it album of the year. The Lost Prophets definitely do not suck but I'm a little disappointed in their slight image change. They were the best band I saw live on Ozzfest a couple years back and I plan on seeing them again soon. |
