1. easier to preview tracks online rather than wait for an open listening station at the store 2. running out of storage space 3. have to take the so-so tracks along with the good 4. expensive ~ I can get more tracks for the $ online 5. save time and driving 6. I’m lazy So, I’ve finally come to the point of concluding that I’d rather do my music shopping online than to physically go to the store. How about you guys ~ do you still buy CDs at the store or do you do it online? If you do it online, what service do you use? These are some of the ones I’ve looked at: BEST BUY's Digital Music Service ~ www.bestbuy.com/rhapsody Press Play ~ http://www.pressplay.com/ i-Tunes ~ http://www.apple.com/itunes/ (I would have to get a Mac???) Buymusic.com ~ http://www.buymusic.com/

If I ever do buy a CD, I buy from the store. But because of the high prices I'm very careful about what I get. I always download some tracks first. If I really, really, really like it then I'll buy the CD.

I have to try and remember that not everybody here is from the U.S.! But can't online services be used from most parts of the world? I can see why people still want the commercial CDs with the cover art and lyrics and all. Especially since the illegal file-sharing services have ended up causing so many problems for a lot of people. I would definitely want to go with a pay service if I'm going to do it online. In looking at Best Buy's service, for example, I can list several reasons why doing it that way appeals to me; 1. They have over 375,000 tracks in their library already 2. It's legal, so the artist gets PAID and I don't get a large fine for breaking the law 3. The tracks are CD quality 4. There's no rummaging through various files to find the right track, as with file-sharing services 5. There's no worry about viruses 6. They charge only 79 cents per track ~ about 20 cents less per track than most of the other services. But whether-or-not I use this or some other service, I'm pretty sure getting music online is my preference. Going to the store has lost it's charm for me. I'm tired of paying $15-$20 bucks for a CD just to hear the 2-3 tracks I actually like, then spending more time and money to consolidate the good tracks onto another CD. And frankly, I don't like using listening stations to preview CDs. Half the time I have to wait for other people to finish with them and then they don't always have the tracks loaded up that I want to hear. The online method is SO much more convenient and cost effective. Granted, no more lyric sheets and pictures, but honestly ~ would I really miss it? You look at it once and then it just collects dust. It's about the music, not the CD sleeve.
