Default "Lord of the Rings Trilogy" Discussion

Just to get the thread start. Have you seen them? Do you have them? If you do, which versions do you have?

I HAVE THE WHOLE SHI! AND CABOODLE!!!!!!!!!! I was going through Costco with my mom and I saw a set with the trilogy and it said it had extras, and I thought, it couldn't have ALL of the extra stuff, but I begged me marmy to buy it anyway and I opened it up AND IT'S GOT EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! Each of the movies has four disks and it's got the extra scenes and commentaries and all the good stuff!!! Right now I'm going through the cast commentary. I'm on the second disk of the two towers!!!!

I've got all the extended editions. I've seen them all several times and I'm pretty sure it's time to see them again soon.

I've seen all the movies twice at the theaters, and then several times at home.

I have the extended 4-disk set too. I'm in the process of buying the original versions too becasue the extras are a little different. I finally got to see more of Orlando training and the footage of him bungee jumping and skydiving. This was on LotR. I don't have the original of the other two yet. Maybe this weekend. There are outtakes I'm dying to see. They don't seem to be on the extended versions. So I want to see if they are on the originals.

Oh big time. Every time I think I'm getting over him, I watch the movie and it starts all over again. I love the extended versions because you get to see more of him. We need an elf smilie.

Ditto. Except I've only seen ROTK more than once in the theatre. No wait...I might've seen TTT twice because I went with my friends and then my dad and sister.

I saw all the films once in theatre. I remember my dad and I had spent nearly all day sitting and then we went to the theatre to see the first one and we were sitting for another three hours. We were so fidgety. So unfortunately I didn't enjoy the first one all that much until it came out on DVD but I loved TTT! It's my favourite of the three! I haven't watched much of the extras yet but I'm getting there.

edit:OMG! CHINESE WATER TORTURE!!! THE LINES ARE HERE TOO, BUT THEY'RE RED!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I'm having such a hard time deciding if TTT or LOTR is my favorite. I think it deserves more study. I'm putting LOTR back in my DVD player tonight. I've been watching ROTK lately.

Have you seen the You Tube video set to "Princes of the Universe" by Queen? It 's in dedication to Legolas and Aragon. I love it. That's one of my favorite songs too. I have it now on a playlist to OJBB.

What makes TTT your favorite?

I love TTT for so many reasons. It's got more humour in it than the other two, but I don't think it's too much. And I love the trees!!!! And I love that the relationship between Legolas and Gimli starts to develop. I love at Helms Deep, that whole battle was so well done. And Mary and Pippin are the best in that film. So funny. I was so upset when they were separated.

When I first watched the FOTR I didn’t understand it well and felt disappointed that Frodo and Sam didn’t reach Mount Doom (obviously I hadn’t read the book). Anyway right from the start I was waiting for the most talked about character to appear (Legolas or Orlando Bloom had been creating waves here that even a male journalist commented that Legolas “proves you can have great hair and still be heroic”) but it was quite a long 1/3 of the film passed before he finally arrived. Oh his entrance into Rivendell was so graceful! And I can never forget the first time I heard his voice, “He is no mere ranger...” It is so light, so soothing yet with authority. Now the Uruk Hais were really scary …it didn’t help that it was already late in the night when we watched this movie. But of course Legolas is there and his skill most dependable, especially on that broken bridge when he alone defends the Fellowship with his deadly arrows. However, the fall of Gandalff and Boromir’s death made me worry he might be the next casualty in TTT, so even though I was a bit disappointed I was impatient to see TTT.

Really? I always liked RotK best. I guess it's because everything was just cleared up in that one. FotR is my second favorite. TTT was good as well, but it's not as good as the other two.

I like TTT and ROTK the best. I rewatched both a couple nights ago and couldn't decide which I like better. And I watched the stuff about WETA and I have a whole new amount of respect for all the movies! It's absolutely AMAZING the detail they put into everything!

OMG I do respect and appreciate those movies. I've been sick for the last two weeks as I've mentioned so I had nothing but time on my hands. So what else do I do but watch the trilogy again. I never wanted to listen to the commentary because I didn't want to be drawn away from the movie, even though I've watched absolutely everything else. I listened this time. I didn't think I could respect that group of people (all of them) any more than I already did. I was wrong. They are amazing. It's incredible the way they talk about each other and the way they felt about each other. But I've come to the conclusion that they are all of them a bit cracked. Then they probably have to be to have dedicated so much of their time, their life, their health, their love to what will undoubtably be a classic trilogy of movie. If they aren't all ready.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring was just named to AFI's 100 Greatest Movies of all time. It came in at #50. It was the newest addition to the list.
