'ELIZABETHTOWN' CASTING CALL IN LEXINGTON
By Greg Kocher
CENTRAL KENTUCKY BUREAU
Some changes have been made for Saturday's casting call in Lexington for non-speaking "background" extras in the movie Elizabethtown.
First, the time of the call has been shortened by one hour. It is now from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dixiana-Lane's End Room on the north end of Marriott Griffin Gate Resort, 1800 Newtown Pike. Originally the call was to have gone until 3 p.m.
Second, though she doesn't want to discourage children and teens from coming, casting director Kim Petrosky said she is now primarily looking for adults who are 45 years old or older.
"I'm not going to tell anyone not to come, but truly ... we're so swamped with the other ages, that's the age we're lacking," said Petrosky, an independent contractor working to cast the Paramount Pictures movie written and directed by Cameron Crowe.
Between 3,000 and 4,000 men, women and children showed up for last week's Louisville casting call, Petrosky said.
Some people had been waiting in line since 5 a.m. at the Galt House Hotel for the casting call that didn't start until 11 a.m., said Kim "Cookie" McCray, who also is involved with the casting.
"We hate to exclude people, but the fact of the matter is we did have so many kids and teen girls sign up in Louisville," McCray said. "So those folks that never want to sign up for an open call because they think we're not going to call them or they don't want to go fight the lines -- those are the folks we want. Because we have plenty of the other folks to choose from."
Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst are set to star in Elizabethtown. Bloom plays a suicidal young man who returns to his Kentucky hometown; he meets a flight attendant, played by Dunst, who gives him a reason for living.
Scenes will be shot next month in Louisville, the Lexington area, Versailles and Elizabethtown. Paramount will distribute the movie sometime in 2005.
Extras who are chosen to be in the film will be paid, but the rate has not been set. No acting experience is necessary.
If you go Saturday, don't expect to sing, dance or give your rendition of Macbeth's soliloquy because this is not an audition. It's primarily a registration process where individuals will fill out a form and submit a photo no larger than 4 inches by 6 inches. Photos will not be returned.
"They should bring the photo, but if for some reason I don't think it looks like them, I'll take a Polaroid," McCray said. | source |
