Dramatic Need Charity Carnivale Spectacular

Actor Josh Hartnett says he wants to do arts-based charity work with children in Africa.

The American, who is currently starring in the West End production Rain Man, made the comments at a charity carnival at Village Underground in Shoreditch, east London.

The charity Dramatic Need sends volunteers to Africa offering art, film, dance and photography activities for impoverished children. They have worked with 4,500 children in 2008, and require £25,000 a year to keep going.

"I want to go down there and actually help out. It's fun for an actor to be able to do something that's not for publicity, but actually go down and do something hands-on," said Hartnett. "It allows the kids to be children. It allows them to be creative and have a good time for a little portion of their day which I think is necessary."

Comedian David Walliams, fashion designer Pearl Lowe and supermodel Helena Christensen also attended the event.

Christensen said: "I think it's a very worthy cause. I followed it from the beginning. I think it's a beautiful thought and a beautiful thing to do for children in Africa.

"It's a great way of looking at how we can improve their lives, not only by giving them their most essential needs, but also something for their minds, something that can make them happy.

"We all know how creating art can make you feel good about yourself. It's always inspired me so much to be around creative people and I think it's a good chance to give children who are living in difficult circumstances the chance to develop mentally."

Dramatic Need founder Amber Sainsbury described how they help children in Africa, saying: "We try to give them a voice of their own and a way to communicate what they're going through that they don't find threatening.

"We don't tell them how they should be or how they should cope. We give them the means to express what they feel, by sending in professional actors and musicians to do workshops in schools and communities in very underprivileged parts of the world."

He looks so good, I can't wait for Karo's report of the night!

Girls I have no idea from what I should start to tell my story. Thanks God I was in sms touch with Soss cause I had to share this all with somebody. Inside it was amazing . Great music, woman disguised in special clothes that they offer tickets for drinks, eat etc. For luck i was sorber ( just one beer and two great drinks) at least we have just only life.
In one moment this auctions have strated and we decided to sacrifice our oney for this great purpose. I was very touch when one lady told story about this children.
I have choosen one auction and my sister another. And my sister won this auction:

2 VIP theatre tickets and meeting backstage with Josh Hartnett and cast of Rainman

Every people were so nice. I was in bath one Mags won this auction. She was alone in this crowd. One in one moment one guy said the winner is the woman with green scarf.
She felt amazing. It's great that in this way we can join something nice for us and posibilities to help another people.

I saw Josh and Helena. They were very close to us.Helena looked amazing. Josh also and rest people inside. I still can't belive in this all. It was amazing and magic evening for me and my sister.

Kers ty for this link. Really great video. We both with Mags concider that this all auctions were amazing. This purpose is amazing. It's so good to support things like this especially when you belive in things like this. I am so happy that we can help this children in their artistic develope. It's amazing. I don't regret lats night.

Josh was very very close us last night and he he made great "faces" during one of this auction. It;'s difficult to describe. Helena also looked amzing and also she was very close us lats night.
It's fantastic that people want to support things like this. It's really great.

Thanks girls I still can't bbelive in this too.

I know Christmas in this year has started earlier for some of us.
