Mozart and the Whale: advanced screening.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 12th, sees a special screening in Spokane, where the film was shot. Jerry Newport will be speakin there and I wish him well at an event which will raise funds for the Northwest Autism Center.

According to Newport, "Mozart and the Whale" accurately reflects life as experienced by those with Asperger's syndrome. While it doesn't "sugar-coat" the condition, Newport said, the film recognizes that Asperger's doesn't limit the possibilities available in life.

"I don't think it should be automatically looked at as a disability," Newport said of Asperger's syndrome. "I think it should be looked at as a very different combination of abilities and disabilities."

According to Newport, "Mozart and the Whale" will aid in educating the public about the complexities of Asperger's syndrome. Thanks to a dedicated and talented cast and crew, the film could also be quite successful at the box office, he said, and Hartnett's performance was probably the "best acting he's ever done."

movies filmed in spokane

I had the local morning news on this morning while I got ready for work & the mentioned Mozart & the Whale 15 times in a half hour, because it was filmed here & is coming out soon. Good lord! The movie itself sounds interesting & I'll probably see it to see the Spokane locations & recognize places I've been, but the incessant pimping was driving me nuts.
