And I like Rachel Weisz. Here's a little on Asperger's Syndrome... "Individuals with AS can exhibit a variety of characteristics and the disorder can range from mild to severe. Persons with AS show marked deficiencies in social skills, have difficulties with transitions or changes and prefer sameness. They often have obsessive routines and may be preoccupied with a particular subject of interest. They have a great deal of difficulty reading nonverbal cues (body language) and very often the individual with AS has difficulty determining proper body space. Often overly sensitive to sounds, tastes, smells, and sights, the person with AS may prefer soft clothing, certain foods, and be bothered by sounds or lights no one else seems to hear or see. It's important to remember that the person with AS perceives the world very differently. Therefore, many behaviors that seem odd or unusual are due to those neurological differences and not the result of intentional rudeness or bad behavior, and most certainly not the result of "improper parenting". By definition, those with AS have a normal IQ and many individuals (although not all), exhibit exceptional skill or talent in a specific area. Because of their high degree of functionality and their naiveté, those with AS are often viewed as eccentric or odd and can easily become victims of teasing and bullying. While language development seems, on the surface, normal, individuals with AS often have deficits in pragmatics and prosody. Vocabularies may be extraordinarily rich and some children sound like "little professors." However, persons with AS can be extremely literal and have difficulty using language in a social context." | This will be a good opportunity for Josh to show people the extent of his talent as it will be a really hard part to play. I work with people with Aspergers and it's really complicated. Hard to understand how someone can drive a car and work full time but doesn't know how to make a sandwich! I think he'd be very good. |

| Wow.. this news has made me so happy! The movie has oscar written all over it. I'm not too sure about the writer but the director is good and they have both had oscar nominated movies in the past. Josh is picking some really great people to work with. These smaller movies are very important and should insure that he has a long career ahead of him. Shooting begins on March 1st which is a bit of a suprise. I wonder if BD will be shot before or after? One last thing.. what does Mozart mean? Quote:

| From what Josh has said in his interviews it seems that he wouldn't make a film that was shmaltzy. In the interview he did in TotalFilm, he said he was looking for roles that would challenge him. If it's directed well then it would most likely be very good in a similar way to 'What's eating Gilbert Grape', but I can see how it could be bad if it turns in to a slushy love story. He seems to have picked the right people to work with so far. |

| Beat me to it Kate!...lol was just gona post this! Another article it says he is not confirmed to be signed to the movie. Sounds like an interesting plot, unconventional which i like. Few possibilities for Josh to be in some oscar winning movie in the near future it seems. Entertainment - Variety Thesps tune up 'Mozart' romancer Sun Jan 11, 7:00 PM ET MICHAEL FLEMING (Variety) Josh Hartnett (news) is set and Rachel Weisz (news) is negotiating to star in "Mozart and the Whale," a Ron Bass-scripted love story to be directed by Petter Naess, whose "Elling" was nominated for a foreign-language film Oscar in 2001. Millennium Films will finance the film independently, with shooting to begin March 1. Inspired by a 1995 article in the Los Angeles Times, "Mozart and the Whale" is based on the story of a young couple who have Asperger's syndrome, a kind of autism. Hartnett's character is a math savant who falls in love with a woman who is a music and art savant, played by Weisz. Their talents are offset by an inability to relate to one another, which threatens to undermine their relationship. Asperger's is much more subtle than the kind of autism suffered by Dustin Hoffman (news)'s character in "Rain Man," though there is a tie between the projects. Pic's producer, Robert Lawrence, was head of production at United Artists when that movie was made and he'd bought the underlying rights on that project. When Lawrence became a producer, he optioned the L.A. Times piece and collared the life rights of the subjects, Jerry Newport and Mary Meinel, and enlisted Bass. Initially, the project took root at DreamWorks as a directing vehicle for Steven Spielberg (news), who once circled "Rain Man." Spielberg never got to it, and DreamWorks recently put the picture in turnaround. Lawrence set it up at Millennium, where Frank DeMartini and James Acheson also will produce. Avi Lerner, Danny Dimbort, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Trevor Short will be exec producers. The driving force behind the film has been Hartnett, who will do the film before starring with Mark Wahlberg (news) in the Brian De Palma (news)-directed drama "The Black Dahlia." The project is a passion for Hartnett, who after making "Pearl Harbor" turned down a rich three-picture deal for "Superman" and continues to choose eclectic films like "Black Hawk Down" and "40 Days and 40 Nights." Weisz, who has been filming the Keanu Reeves (news) starrer "Constantine" and was last seen in "Runaway Jury," sparked to Bass's script and agreed late Thursday to do the film. | |

| Isn't it funny how things turn out? We first heard about The Rum Diary then Black Dahlia and now this. But they are shooting this first then Black Dahlia and then Rum Diary. lol reverse order Shooting begins on March 1st in LA so all you LA fans should look into grabbing yourself a part as an extra or something ASAP. I know Jen was from LA but she hasn't been on FH in ages :( Quote:
Is Josh using Tom Cruise as a template to help him choose roles? Bruckheimer, De Palma, Bass who's next? Maybe Spielberg himself or hopefully Oliver Stone | |

| What amazing news. Thanks to everyone. This is an incredible opportunity for Josh to really show what he is made of. Not just a pretty face, but an enormously gifted actor. I hope all those crtics who made comments about how Josh was "too pretty" to play a role---EAT THEIR WORDS! |

| I take it everybodys really excited about this movie. The page has already had 19 posts. But I hope he's definately gonna do all of these movies. I don't like it when theres rumors about a new movie he's gonna make, and they turn out not to be true. Like Wish You Were Here. Did anybody else hear about that, like two years ago, cos if he was still gonna make that movie, there would be some more news on it by now wouldn't there? |
