And of course I thought the best place to start was Pearl Harbor... So if this is popular I'll make one for each film over the coming weeks. Question Time: 1. What's your favourite scene and why? 2. Who's your favourite other character, after Danny and why? 3. Post, if you can a favourite picture from the movie. 4. When did you first see PH and tell us anything about your experience of watching it? 5. How would you rate the movie, compared to Josh's other film? 6. A sequel or prequel... any ideas or wishes? 7. What's you least favourite moment and would you change anything? 8. Favourite quote. Answer as many as you like and of course add anything else you can think of. |

| Pearl Harbor is my favorite movie of all time, so this one is easy. I could go on and on. But I will tell you that it changed my life in a way. Even at my "advanced age" I saw something so incredibly special in a young actor by the name of Josh Hartnett. Not just his good looks and talent, but his whole persona. I had never heard of Josh before Pearl Harbor. After seeing Pearl Harbor for the first time, all my husband could do was criticize the movie for it's historical inaccuracies, but all I could do was talk about Josh-------And I haven't stopped since!!!! :D Of course, my favorite scene is the parachute hangar scene. But I also love the scene where Danny and Rafe are on the beach by the fire talking about them both loving Evelyn. Josh's smile in this scene blew me away. I'll think of more later. Great topic, Kate. [ May 03, 2005, 06:26 PM: Message edited by: olive ] |

| Creative Maven ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thank you for this topic Kate. As soon as I saw Pearl Harbor it became one of my all time favorite movies. I didn’t know Josh, as least by name, before then either. I remember seeing the teaser months before and I thought “this guy is going to be a heartbreaker”. No pun intended. Like I said I didn’t know his name then. And the only part of him that was shown was him all greasy. And all he had to do was stand up and turn around. It was all over. I couldn’t wait to see this movie. I saw it opening week. I then saw it every few days or so for the next two months. I won’t even say how many times I saw the movie before it left theaters w/in driving distance of my house. It was literally 6 months later. And the day they dedicated all proceeds of movies sale for 911 – Pearl Harbor was the only movie I wanted to see. Then to top it all off, we got Josh Hartnett. Kind of new, making a big breakthrough in a big movie, and being so genuine and sincere with all the buzz swirling around him. Aside from being drop dead gorgeous, sexy as all get out, and just plain huggable. It hurt my heart to find out that he was still just a baby. I have since gotten over it. :D That was just one amazing summer for me. And since then, the dvd has not left my dvd player. [ May 03, 2005, 07:41 PM: Message edited by: Tcup4jdh ] |

| I saw Pearl Harbor in the theater about 9 or 10 times. In the US that's not a cheap deal! It almost got to be a joke for me. I was hooked on Josh. No matter how many times I saw it, though, I cried every time I saw Danny die. Josh was brilliant in that scene and it is gut-wrenchingly sad. After seeing the movie 5 or 6 times, though, it was no longer Danny dying, but Josh---then I really boo-hooed. If I had to change anything in the movie, it would be that Rafe would have died instead of Danny. But, then again, it probably would not have had the same impact if that had happened. Nobody wanted sweet Danny to die. Unfortunately, Danny was the tragic hero in the love triangle. My second favorite charactor was Evelyn. Kate Beckinsale gave a great performance. I think she and Josh had more chemistry together than she and Ben Affleck. |

| Junior Member ![]() ![]() | 1. What's your favourite scene and why? The parachute hanger is the obvious one. When Evelyn tells Danny she didn't like when her dad took her flying and did barrel rolls, I love the look on Danny's face when he goes ahead and does it anyway. 2. Who's your favourite other character, after Danny and why? I think Betty is adorable. 3. Post, if you can a favourite picture from the movie. I got nothin'. 4. When did you first see PH and tell us anything about your experience of watching it? I actually didn't see it until it was on video. I wasn't a big time Josh fan yet then and I heard so much mixed emotion about the movie I wasn't sure how jazzed I was about seeing it. I don't recall any initial reaction to the movie except that I liked it. 5. How would you rate the movie, compared to Josh's other film? To be honest, it's not my favorite. I tend to like movies that are "a little off." I do love Danny and I LOVE the '40s so it's got those points going for it in my book. My favorite by far is definitely "The Virgin Suicides." Josh is genius as Trip and I just really enjoy how that film sticks with me in the back of my head for days after I watch. 6. A sequel or prequel... any ideas or wishes? I'm not a big sequel/prequel kinda girl. 7. What's you least favourite moment and would you change anything? I actually started watching Pearl Harbor last night but went to bed before Rafe "came back from the dead." I'll have to decide on a least favorite (no "u" because I'm American - haha) part after I finish. 8. Favourite quote. Again, I'll have to decide after I watch it again. I've only seen PH a couple times so I don't have fave quotes, etc. yet. |

What's your favourite scene and why? The parachute hangar scene, why cause it is the nicest scene with both Josh and Kate B. 2. Who's your favourite other character, after Danny and why? Evelyn, obviously cause she's played by Kate Beckinsale, my favorite actress. 3. Post, if you can a favourite picture from the movie. Too many to post, just check here (do you catch a shameless plug here ) 4. When did you first see PH and tell us anything about your experience of watching it? The day it opened. I know I got very emotional, and I think it was just me, cause I walked out wiping tears out of my eyes. 5. How would you rate the movie, compared to Josh's other film? Well...I am a sucker for the 1940s look, so this is like my fave, fave, fave Josh movie. Though his performance isn't as good as it is in BHD. 6. A sequel or prequel... any ideas or wishes? How about we have Rafe die instead of Danny :D 7. What's you least favourite moment and would you change anything? When Danny dies, and check answer to #6. 8. Favourite quote. "I kinda like you." | 1. Parachute hangar scene and pretty much any scene when Danny is covered in grease and sweat 2. Evelyn and Betty, they're both sweethearts. Rafe is okay, in a cheesy kind of way. 3. I'll find the pic later. 4. I got the DVD for my BDay, I was so nervous I was shaking when I first watched it :D 5. This movie is awesome, made me a history fanatic. No other Josh film has such an impact on me as of yet. 6. A prequel to see the younger Danny and sequel to see if his son looks like him  Yeah...it all revolves around him! 7. Danny dies. I also wish that all the scenes that made the cutting room floor were available on the DVD :D 8. "The only thing that worries me the most is that you may love him more than you love me..." or somewhere along the lines of that. |

| 1. 1. What's your favourite scene and why? There are so many, I love the scene when the guys are working on that plane and Danny says "I think I'm falling for her", and hes all nervous, so cute! The parachute hangar scene for obvious reasons And when he kisses Evelyn on her nose and says "everything's gonna be all right". LOVE IT! 2. Who's your favourite other character, after Danny and why? Evelyn is such a beautiful character (I'm partial to the nurses because I'm in nursing school ) I think all of the supporting roles are great (gooz, red, anthony, etc.) 3. Post, if you can a favourite picture from the movie. I would, but I don't know how 4. When did you first see PH and tell us anything about your experience of watching it? I kind of stumbled upon PH. I knew who Josh was, and thought he was cute, but hadn't seen the movie. It was after the movie came out on dvd, and it was on pay per view. There was this weird weekend where ppv was coming in for free (I still don't know why) and they were playing PH a lot. I saw the tail end of it first. I started watching it at the point where Rafe comes back after being "dead". I was enthralled by the story (I'm a big fan of WWII history/1940s). I then found out that my dad had the movie, so I watched the whole thing later. I have loved that movie ever since, and I love Josh even more. He does not get enough credit for his work. He amazes me more with each new role! 5. How would you rate the movie, compared to Josh's other film? Its probably my favorite Josh film. 6. A sequel or prequel... any ideas or wishes? I think it would ruin the original. Its not one of those movies that would work either way. More Josh is always good, but I think it would be a disaster. 7. What's you least favourite moment and would you change anything ? Obviously I would change the part when Danny dies. But, I think it adds depth to the story. 8. Favourite quote . "I kinda like ya" I love that part, but there are so many. [ May 04, 2005, 11:01 PM: Message edited by: NicolePDX ] |

| Bunny Webmistress ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Question Time: 1. What's your favourite scene and why? Well that would of course be the parachute hangar scene… very cliché, but it is true. I also love the scene that Danny visits Evelyn at he house and gives her the hanky. 2. Who's your favourite other character, after Danny and why? Rafe… I love his character as well. And Evelyn I would love to play that part hihi. 3. Post, if you can a favourite picture from the movie. http://joshhartnett.fanhost.com/albu...h29.jpg&cat=ph 4. When did you first see PH and tell us anything about your experience of watching it? Funny I don’t remember the first time that I saw PH that much. I know my boyfriend told me to watch that movie, but I didn’t listen to him. I didn’t liked Ben at the time and I didn’t think it was worth to watch the movie in theatre. A few months later my boyfriend bought the movie as a present. He knows I am really interested in war movies and he thought this movie was one of those movies I would like. I still waited a couple of weeks before we watched the DVD. But when I did, I had a really hard time trying not to cry at the end of the movie. I loved Danny and I was really disappointed that the director and writer of this movie let him die at the end… I watched the movie over a 1000 times now and still cant get enough. I love this movie… 5. How would you rate the movie, compared to Josh's other film? The best… not because of his acting cause he acts great in every movie, but I love 1940’s movies and Danny is so cute. 6. A sequel or prequel... any ideas or wishes? Danny not dying at the end? hihi 7. What's you least favourite moment and would you change anything? Danny dying at the end… I think I would love a PH 2 and find out Danny didn’t die. 8. Favourite quote. You know, the only thing that scares me is that you might love him more than you love me. How can I not feel this way? I kinda' like you |

What's your favourite scene and why? The hanger scene, of course and when Evelyn meets Danny coming out of the theatre; Josh looks so young and sweet. But also the scene where young Rafe rescues young Danny from his abusive father; it really gives you a feel of what Danny and Rafe mean to each other. 2. Who's your favourite other character, after Danny and why? Ewen Bremner's character. 3. Post, if you can a favourite picture from the movie. (I guess this also a favourite scene! 4. When did you first see PH and tell us anything about your experience of watching it? I had no idea who Josh Hartnett was when PH came out and avoided it after all the bad press it got here. But then I discovered Josh and regretted not seeing him on the big screen. Before I saw it on DVD, I was told via a friend who was told by her friend that it was Ben Affleck's character that died... so I was pretty shocked when it was beautiful Danny that died. 5. How would you rate the movie, compared to Josh's other film? Not my favourite of Josh's, by far but he is totally adorable as Danny. 6. A sequel or prequel... any ideas or wishes? I'd have prefered a homoerotic version where Danny and Rafe end up together... sorry, Evelyn fans. 7. What's you least favourite moment and would you change anything? When Rafe catches the cork in his nose. Would have liked this ending better; Danny and Rafe flying off into a beautiful Pacific sunset together. :D 8. Favourite quote. Danny: You're a rotten drunk... always have been. Rafe: Well, you're a lousy friend... that's a new development. |

| Creative Maven ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I thought I’d take the time to answer the rest of the questions. But if I do them all at once, this post would never end. So I’m going to do them one or two at a time. 1. What's your favourite scene and why? The parachute hanger goes without saying, along with a number of others. My favorite scene for strictly character development is the scene on the boat right before they take off. From watching the movie an unmentionable number of times and reading the book a couple of times, I always had the feeling that the only reason Danny wasn’t #1 pilot was because he didn’t need to be. Rafe, because of his reading problems, wanted or felt he needed to prove himself – so Danny (IMO) backed off. Then it looked like Danny was always in Rafe’s shadow. But even though Rafe was more experienced, I felt Danny was really the better pilot. If you notice, when they were training to fly the bombers and none of them could get off the ground before hitting the line, Danny was the only one to at least get his nose wheel up. Also when they were taking off from the ship, Rafe and Doolittle went before Danny and neither did it with their wings level. Danny did – his wings were flat and even when he took off. There were a couple of other times where it showed Danny was better. Anyway my FS, on the boat before they took off, when Danny was talking about the guns being replaced - you saw him change. Danny came into his own. He was no longer under Rafe’s “protection”. He was a leader now; with his own bomber, and his own crew following him. |

| Before I saw Pearl Harbor, I heard the song "There You'll Be" by Faith Hill on the radio. At the time, I thought it was one of the prettiest songs I had ever heard. Of course, after I saw the movie, I felt like crying every time I heard it because the song is about Evelyn thinking about Danny. Like the song says, "I'll keep a part of you with me, And eveywhere I am, there you'll be." Well, Danny did leave a part of him with Evelyn---a child. Oh my, I need a good cry now! | Creative Maven ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I heard the song before the movie too. It wasn't announced that it was from the movie though. But as soon as I heard it, I knew it had to be for PH and that one of them was going to die. I was still surprized because I thought the whole Rafe dying thing was it. I couldn't believe when Danny died at the end. I've cried at the death of characters in movies before, but Danny's just broke my heart. Now you got me needing a good cry. | One of my least favorite moments came at the beginning of the movie when Rafe is trying to pass the eye exam with Evelyn and he leans over to her and says, "Please don't take my wangs ". It makes me cringe every time I hear him say this. Ben Affleck's southern accent was pitiful! Josh did a much better job than Ben. Josh's accent was more subtle, but Ben's was too exaggerated and inconsistent. I know what I'm talking about! :D Also, the boys that were cast as the young Danny and Rafe at the beginning of the movie were just perfect. They really did look like the grown up Danny and Rafe. And the child who played Danny's son at the end of the movie really did look like he could have been Josh's child. Oh, and just a reminder------Pearl Harbor is being broadcast on ABC this coming Thursday night. I'll post a reminder again later in the week.
