The Black Dahlia script. Contains SPOILERS!

I couldn't resist forking out a few dollars when I saw this was available... I'm only a third of the way through but already there are some significant changes to Ellroy's novel.

I'm about half way now and there's some serious changes... which is to be expected, they have to cut stuff out of the book, just for length but some of the changes are surprising.

If anyone has specific questions please ask away but I'll probably have to put a spoiler notice on the thread.

But I can tell you the opening credits roll with Black and White newsreel footage of two fighters; assuming they're Lee and Bucky. ;)

If this is the final draft of the script, then the film and book will be a mile apart. But then the ending of LA Confidential was changed too (I believe) and still made a great film.

The sex scenes are still in this Dahlia script, though! [img]graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]

They maybe just be genuine re-writes, I heard there were changes made... even another writer brought in.

The sex scenes could be pretty hot... here's hoping!

Hi Kate! i'm disapointed to hear that you don't think much of the script (at least in comparison to the book) but can you please be more specific about the changes that have been made? especially in terms of the characters

For a start the time line seems to have been shortened... there's not the big gaps like the book.
First major shocker; Lee's death is changed... Bucky witnesses it and the killers demise at the same time.
Even the Dahlia's death is changed; there's no much on the torture aspect either.
Kay catches Bucky being unfaithful with Madeleine, although their marriage is never mentioned.
Jane Chambers is still in though.
At the end Bucky is still with Kay but Madeleine's story ends differently.

I don't think reading a script is ever going to be as enjoyable as the depth gained for a novel so maybe this is going to work out fine.

Sorry Kate, but I just have to ask. Did it mention anything about Bucky's teeth? I don't mean to sound obsessed, but I hope that they aren't using the fake teeth and have just stayed with Josh's own beautiful teeth. :D

Bucky only has big buck teeth :D for about the first quater of the film... then comes the boxing match and...

his teeth are normal, Joshie sized!

Yes, Bucky's gumshield and front teeth get knocked out, then the next scene is Bucky getting some dentistry done and ending up with regular sized teeth.
