| Moderate Moderator   |  1. I find it had to believe a talented and successful actor like Javier Bardem would only command a 6,000 euro salary even from a skin-flint like Allen. 2. Whether or not the film "belongs" to Cruz and Hall remains to be seen. Like the critical reviews, this is just so much hype. |

[quote] he actually said that. everyone knows that woody allen cant pay too much to his actors. he wasnt even able to give the cast a place to stay in barcelona during shooting, so javier had to rent an attic. |

Reports on Scarlett Johannson, Penelope Cruz Lesbian Scene Gets Woody Stiff By TheImproper.com  Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson are starring in Woody Allen’s upcoming film, “Victoria Cristina Barcelona,” a steamy story about an artist with two girlfriends in decadent, sexually liberated Barcelona. But hey! He’s no dirty old man out to make a sex flick with two hot actresses, he protests. That’s not the only problem Allen grouses about. No one wants to work with him! Wonder why? The cantankerous 73-year-old director has gone on the offensive to deny rumors the movie is filled with steamy sex scenes, including a lesbian tryst between Cruz and Johansson. Of course, a movie trailer released by Allen’s production company seems to suggest otherwise. Check it out here. Other tabloid reports claim the two actresses also get down in a threesome with Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who stars as the artist. While Allen acknowledges that the movie involves lesbianism, he says claims that it is prurient are ridiculous. “There's no truth comparable to anything you've read. There's the barest smidgeon of sex in it,” he tells England’s Empire magazine. “There are sex scenes between all the characters in the movie; between the men and t,he women, and the women and the women. That is accurate, but I'd say there's probably not even 20 seconds of sex in the whole picture.” Allen has won accolades for many of his classic, if idiosyncratic, films, and he is one of the nation's best known directors. who has often managed to lure top talent to act in his low budget films. But, these days, Allen says he struggles to get big name actors. He says it’s because he can’t offer A-list actors the multi-million-dollar pay they often demand. But, actually, there is another reason; Allen is impossible to work with! He’s a perfectionist and almost obsessive-compulsive about the scenes he shoots. "There are plenty of actors and actresses who have said - even after saying 'I'm dying to work with you, so I'll do anything' - that they're not available that day or that they can't work for the pay I'm offering," he said in a recent interview. Not surprising. No one wants to offend Allen, but any excuse is a good excuse to avoid his quirky behavior. Still, he manages to get it done, and usually produces a watchable movie, even if he has to take the lead role himself like he did in “Deconstructing Harry.” Be forewarned, the movie trailer has no dialogue; it’s simply scenes in a montage with a Spanish song for background. The movie opens in theaters September 5. |
