I tryied to listen to it without judgemental ears and preconceived notions about being an actress performing songs about an artist I actually admire and well. On first thought the arrangements are really well done, seems they actually took sometime in putting them together and not just rushing it for the sake of cashing in. As for Scarlett's singing and presence well it does leave a lot to be desired, there's really little modulation her register, a plain voice all the way through, like they just recorded her on first take and ran lots of filters until they figured Pro Tools couldn't save face. Really if someone told me it was a prank by sum random fan I'd even fall for it. Can't really blame her tho, probably has never had any vocal training. Still it's cool she's interested and self-invested in Wait's music, spreading the word via attaching her name to the "product". While a lot of negative criticism unwarented or not will come her way, I respect the hustle. ![]() Last edited by Captain Beefheart; 05-20-2008 at 03:37 AM.. |

The star said that the only thing stopping her was stagefright. "It would be sad to not get everybody [band members] together," she told The London Paper. "Whether it's at a festival or somewhere that's kind of fun. "[But] I have horrible stage fright, so it would have to be overcome. People approach me [about playing live] and my usual answer is, 'Ah, I'll think about that'. "When I do think about it, I start to get really sweaty and uncomfortable and itchy around the neck." From contactmusic.com SCARLETT JOHANSSON - JOHANSSON RULES OUT TOUR Fans of The Matchpoint star released her debut album last week (19May08), a collection of Tom Waits covers, but has no plans to follow up the LP with any live dates. | (L) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Kate Nash blasts Johansson 'sexism' Kate Nash has claimed that reviews of Scarlett Johansson's debut album were sexist. The singer said she was disappointed by the "patronising cynicism" of reviewers who thought Johansson couldn't make a decent record because she is a good-looking woman. Commenting on a specific review, Nash said: "It does my head in that he [the reviewer] had to bring it down such a sh***y level, cutting her down because he can roll his eyes and pass it off as nonsense because 'she's a pretty little girly girl from Hollywood who thinks she can have a go at dressing up like daddy'. "Shouldn't we just stick to what we do best girls and smell nice? Sell ourselves short? And shut the f**k up? It's blatant sexism." She added: "I know if I start talking about this I'm a 'dyke' and 'a man hater' and I'll be 'knocked off that pedestal missy' but these kinds of attitudes should be thought of as prehistoric. "If you must attack at least attack fairly, don't be so petty. Point is, I hate arrogant sexist patronising t**ts, I'm really more into equality." Johansson released her debut album Anywhere I Lay My Head last month. i dont know who this chick is but i like her ;) |
