Very interesting. Thanks for this Bill, I see that this is the same Jimmy McGovern that wrote the Cracker TV series and The Lakes TV series too. If the exec's do screw around with it, it'll be a very well written screenplay.

Give it time. That's always a concern with a finished film, is the length of time from when it's wrapped to when it's released.

Rival movies fight over Scots star Ewan McGregor

Apr 27 2008 By Fariha Karim
EWAN McGregor is at the centre of a tug of war between two rival Scots films.
The Star Wars actor is wanted by Oscar-winning Peter Capaldi to star in a new Scots comedy called The Young Pretender.
But he's also been targeted for Scarlett Johansson's remake of Mary Queen of Scots.
Both films are to be shot this summer.
McGregor previously said he would take the title role as The Young Pretender in Capaldi's film, about a movie actor playing Bonnie Prince Charlie. Johansson wanted the Scots actor to play the Earl of Bothwell in her £26million film, which is due to start shooting in July this year.
An insider said: "Ewan has committed to Peter's project and it's likely that everything will have to work around that."

Thank you for the bonus video MSFixR. It reminded me of back in school when the teacher announced surpirsingly that we'd get a film strip.

Opinion From The Glascow Sunday Mail..with a writer who's a little unhappy

Scarlett should face chop over Queen of Scots role

May 11 2008 Elaine C. Smith
Why Isn't Homegrown Star Playing Mary Queen Of Scots?
I AM appalled that the Hollywood movie of Mary Queen of Scots is to be made in Ireland and the star is Scarlett Johansson.
Though we shouldn't be surprised. It's just another in a long list of movies that have hijacked our history for profits...from Brigadoon through Braveheart, to Rob Roy and Highlander.
We all know money follows stars and big movies only get made when there's a lot of cash.
Scarlett is probably the reason the movie about the beheaded monarch is being made in the first place. We have so few women film actors in Scotland anyway. Kelly Macdonald has done well but isn't a big enough name to fund a film on her own. Tilda Swinton has just won an Oscar and even looks a bit like Mary Stuart but she's not seen as glam.
But Hollywood has passed them by. Worse is the fact that the movie won't even be filmed in Scotland. The sooner we get tax breaks for film companies here to encourage the industry the way that Ireland does, the better.
I'd like to have seen Scarlett, like the unfortunate Mary, with her head on the chopping block before it got this far.

I can see where the writer's coming from. It's like having a Brit play George Washington in a film (ironic yes). But on the other hand, it needs to have someone who can sell the film globally. Not many people will know who Kelly MacDonald is (she was inTrainspotting), as opposed to Scarlett.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON - STRIKE FEARS LEAD TO JOHANSSON FILM DELAY

Production on SCARLETT JOHANSSON's new project MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS has been postponed amid fears of a Hollywood actors' strike.
Filming was due to begin on location in Ireland in the coming weeks.
But, the Irish production company behind the film confirmed on Saturday (31May08) the project has been "put on hold" over concerns the Screen Actors Guild members - of which Johansson is one - will strike at the end of June (08).
A spokesperson for Element Pictures says, "With strike action involving the Screen Actors Guild looming we are waiting to see what happens.
"We are hoping that things get resolved in the next few weeks."

And so it begins. Hope that this isn't the sign of things to come and the contracts get sorted out soon. Thank you for the news Bill.
