Scarlett Johansson reportedly burst into tears at a New York fundraiser on Monday night.

The blonde actress was seen sobbing in the toilets at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala, before being comforted by British designer Stella McCartney, it has been claimed.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "She was crying to Stella - not hysterical, confused. It was about 10.30 pm, after Jennifer Hudson performed. They walked back from the bathroom together."

The reason for the 'Match Point' actress' tears is unknown. Scarlett, 22, and Stella, the daughter of Beatles legend Sir Paul, chatted until Scarlett was ready to dry her eyes and rejoin the party.

Scarlett and Stella arrived at the event together, where other guests included Lindsay Lohan and Julianne Moore.

Scarlett's ex-lover Josh Hartnett, was also at the party. The sexy star dated the 'The Black Dahlia' co-star for two years before they split last year, blaming their hectic work schedules.

yeah that happened to us all but i wonder if thats true or not, if so i feel sorry for her. maybe it had something to do with josh being there and that maybe that was the first time they met after the split, its so unconfortable when you meet after a breakup! but i guess we never know, though i bet many suggestions involving josh will appear in the following days.

That must be rough to be so upset you have to cry in public like that. Maybe there was not too many private spots there or a back way out. Hopefully in this case, no one took any pics.

Let's think positive here, maybe Jennifer Hudson's singing was that bad!

Gosh, I´m reall sorry for her! It could be that it whas something to do with Josh. Maybe she´s still not over it, and when tthgis was the first time they met after the split, it could have been all came up again.

Hard to tell since I can't close in enough on the eyes..thank for those eme. BTW RPO means Royally Pissed Off. (I had to ask myself a few months back)

When I cry there's no hiding it. My face turns red and swells up like a blowfish and remains that way for quite a while afterwards. I would have had to leave the venue out of a back door, with my head wrapped in a towel.

Yes, Orlando Bloom and Scarlett Johansson reportedly are engaged in talks to take part in historical thriller drama "Pompeii (2008/II)" that Oscar-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski is set to direct. Pic recently got picked up by Summit Entertainment to be distributed worldwide with RAI Cinema obtaining all Italian rights to it.

An adaptation of Robert Harris' New York Times best-selling novel, the movie will chronicle the days leading up to the destruction of the city through the eyes of a young engineer named Marcus Attilius, who is assigned to repair the greatest aqueduct in the Roman Empire. It already has a projected August start and is planned to be shot for five months with Polanski helming from the script he wrote alongside Harris.
