A BID has been launched to woo Hollywood superstar Scarlett Johansson to a Lothians town.
The actress has been cast to play the lead role in the new Mary Queen of Scots movie, due to start filming next summer.
The doomed royal was born in Linlithgow Palace and West Lothian Council chiefs hope the link will be enough to entice film crews to the historic burgh.
American firm 2929 Entertainment is developing the film and scouts are set to start searching for locations, with film commission Edinburgh Film Focus expected to try to lure production to the Lothians.
"I am a huge film fan and I think Scarlett Johansson is a great choice for this new role," said Councillor Willie Dunn, convener of West Lothian Council's enterprise and development committee.
"Linlithgow Palace was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and we plan to make contact with the American company who are developing the new movie to make sure they are aware of the West Lothian connection, and to see if we can offer any assistance."
