SNAP UP CELEBRITIES' ACCESSORIES TO HELP A GOOD CAUSE

THEY'VE been carried up red carpets across the world, snapped by the paparazzi and held by celebrities.

Now the handbags of the rich and famous could be owned by you when they are auctioned for charity next week.

Handbag Heaven, being held in Glasgow on Friday, will raise thousands for Women's Fund Scotland, which supports projects across the country.

Scarlett Johansson, Claudia Schiffer and Beyonce are among the big names to donate bags for the event.

Many carry precious memories. JK Rowling has given the bag she took to the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in London's Leicester Square five years ago. Other stars who have given bags to be auctioned include KT Tunstall, Edith Bowman, Ivana Trump and Elizabeth Taylor.

Development director Imogen Assenti, who is organising the event, said the money would be used to help people affected by problems from domestic violence and disability to single parents re-entering the workforce.

Imogen said: "The idea of being able to own a bag that has accompanied celebrities is something money can't buy, but Handbag Heaven looks set to make dreams come true."

XFM DJ Heather Suttie, who is hosting the event, said:

"What's not to love about an evening where you can not only take a peek inside Scarlett Johansson's bag but actually own it? It's a guilt-free evening too, knowing this is the one time your handbag habit is helping others."

There's still time to buy a ticket for the event at 29 in Royal Exchange Square. Visit www.handbagheaven.org.uk for more information.

For those who can't attend the event, you can bid online for a limited period. It opens at 9.30am on Monday and closes 5pm on Thursday.
