This is intended for the discussion of films that Sarah's in that are based on books. Here's a place for readers of the books to discuss the novels in detail and if they want, any possible things that maybe put into the film that Sarah's doing on that book. So take it away!

About Veronika

Do any of you think now that the movie is set in New York that they will keep the material about Slovenia in the movie especially the bit at the start where the article "Where is slovenia " annoys her and prompts her to write a note

If they transferred her annonyance to a NY location any thoughts about where they could use

Im still waiting for my book to arrive, I bought it last week on the brazilian version of ebay....lol...so I cant say anything yet...

I wonder what they did in the Japanese movie for "Where is slovenia?"

Anyway...the book. Some thoughts.

Yea...wonder if with NY setting will just film a lot indoors and not make much reference to what's outside the hospital.
Will she play the piano?

There was a lot of time devoted in the book to the other characters.
You had Zedka and her Astral travels..the whole Mari dtory, as well as Eduards backstory.
I think we learned how Veronika's time at the hospital affected the other patients - more than we learned about Veronika.

Think the movie may be more Sarah/Veronika focused, with her relationship with Eduard starting earlier (was in the last third-ish of the book)

And Hope they don't get Robin Williams as Dr Igor lol

To my mind most of it is set indoors so would be filmed indoors apart from a few sequences .Possibly a bit more than in the book of them escaping

Piano playing can easily be faked and there was a piano in the Japanese movie clip I saw

I agree movie would be probably more Sarah/Veronika focused .Back story/Inner thoughts are difficult enough to do in a movie for main character.

i'm worried about how they will tell the stories of that 4 characters.(Veronika,Eduard,Zedka and Mari) probably they will focuse Veronika but the other characters are also very important.I hope they could pull it off.I also think how they will show us out-of-body experience(Zedka or Mari was able to do that) and also the famous piano scene...I am not sure about that because it has nudity.If they can't do it well, it will be a mess.I hope for the best for this movie but again i don't keep my hopes up too much.(i remember TAIB and Suburban Girl in some way)

Well Muse productions ,one of the producers ,http://imdb.com/company/co0019350/ seem to have a fair track record in dealing with book to film adaptions.Most of those movies were well received as far as I recall in regards as how they translated from book to screen

Judging by the keywords that appear when you click on the individual films they also didn't seem to shy away from any controversial themes in the books when adapting them for the screen

Piano scene doesn't just depend on the producers though it also depends on Sarah and what she is willing to do even without any type of nudity involved

The cover you got surprised me since I hadn't seen that one

and the blue cover is the cover of the English language edition

I had thought the english cover was a bit obscure as to the contents of the book but I think the cover of your edition out does it in being obscure

I was able to find the Veronika and Lottery books at the public libraries I go to to use the Internet.

I loved both books. The covers of the French and English Veronika books were the one of the woman walking from the back.

I found both books to have in common that a lot of what is written is what the characters are thinking in their head. It will be interesting to see how they will turn that on film.

I wonder how they will play the scenes of Veronika playing the piano since Sarah doesn't play the instrument. I am sure the striptease scene and what follows (LOL) won't be there.

I think Veronika is going to be a good role for Sarah. She was good in the Buffy episode where Buffy was in an asylum.

I liked Lottery also. It was not good for my blood pressure some times. I couldn't stand the family of Perry taking advantage of him. I hope Sarah would play the role of Perry like Littlet (?) suggested because the role of Cherry is not great. Maybe she won't be in the movie at all.

I was reading the book when you were discussing it so it got me thinking. By the end of it I was thinking maybe Sarah bought the rights with Freddie in mind for playing the role of Perry.
