Default Trouble on set in Buffy season 6

I don't know who wrote this but it is posted on a bulletin on myspace. I dont know how authentic the source is, but makes an interesting read

""""At a convention last year in Detroit I got the chance to talk to James Marsters and asked him about his feelings during this time on Buffy. This was a candid conversation and not in front of a room full of fans, but a room with 7-8 people present. He said Season 6 Sex Scenes was not only a difficult time for him personally but as an actor. There were several things that he did not want to do (Seeing Red bathroom scene in particular) and he went to the higher ups about it. They said if he didn’t do it then he would be sued for breach of contract. Which told him that he had no say in the matter of Spike, he was just to get out there and do the scenes no matter his feelings.

Chances are even though Sarah was Buffy something like this happened. Yep she could have raised a huge stink about it and been fired or sued for breach of contract. Even big names have to play in the field with the Big Boys who are paying their checks.

If you ever watch the dailies from Wrecked and Dead Things you can see the friction working against James and Sarah. They honestly don’t want to be there. Yes they were professional and got the job done but at what expense to their minds and their feelings. No amount of money paid to you can take away the feeling of being used and abused.

So I feel that yes they were professionally and personally degraded. Their feelings (James and Sarah) about the scenes in Season 6 were completely justified. I would have felt degraded also. They said no and still had to do it, that is a virtual rape of a person’s standards and self respect. I can see why none of the actors are really behind a huge push for the movies, who would want to work on a set like that.""""

Thanks, blessed. I had read this before in The BVS Official Mag. You can hear Sarah in the Balcony/Dead Things dailies complaining about the amount of sex that was being portrayed.

I've heard about the threat of James being sued before and as we know Sarah had some problems with aspects of season 6 but I really do not get that vibe they say about the Wrecked and Dead Things dallies when I I watched the complete dallies

There is one comment when they are doing the balcony scene in Dead Things that Sarah makes and James agrees with her but other than that I don't get the friction that poster is talking about

Thanks Blessed, I do believe in this....Sarah has said before that she felt degraded as an actress having to do the sex scenes and I can understand why Marsters would feel the same way....I mean, most of them ( according to fans, since I havent actually seen season 6) were really explicit and hard for some fans to watch ( Thats why I dont want to watch this season)...and about them being forced to do these scenes, probably true as well...well, this just adds another item to my list of "reasons to hate Whedon"...

I didn't know this about James before. It's a real shame that both he and Sarah had virtually no power in saying what they felt that what they were doing was wrong for the show. It could have been so easy for one or both to walk from the show, but credit to them they didn't create a stink about it. As they would have been the one's put in a bad light over it. I think it is good that now they can speak out about it, with no fear of them getting done over it. Thanks for the info blessed.

Wow that must have been very difficult for Sarah and James. I'm a Spuffy fan but season 6 was very hard to watch (Spuffy moments). Poor them, anyway the fact that they dared to make those scenes, makes me admire them even more!.

Love you James!

Where can you view these dailies?

Sarah always spoke out about the darkness of S6 and not getting it and Joss having to say to her you havent lived her life so you havent experienced those things...I think if you play someone for 6 years you know them. I think he was trying to explain to Sarah that Buffy was different after being dead and she couldnt relate to that cause obviously she has never been dead.

I for one could have done without the whole Buffy/Spike relationship thru S6 and S7

A number of dailies are available, some to view, some to download, at Whedonverse.

Good points there Tash, I think the being dead and then not is possibly what Joss was getting. Cheers for the info Ed!

Thumbs up THANKS JUBAS!

A couple of these were new to me! It's easy to see how some of those scenes were not used!

you are welcome. From those clips it really looks like Sarah and james have good relations with each other. Also the sarah and Alyson clip is refreshing to see when you hear all those nasty rumors that they didn't get along. This clip contradict it a bit i think;-)

and if you want to download them this is a very good link for downloading youtube vids:

Thanks again, jubas! Unfortunately, I believe some of the bad feelings between Sarah and Aly came from Sarah's announcing her leaving BVS in a magazine, prior to telling any cast members (although she did tell Joss). Sarah's contract was up and she wanted to move on. Aly was upset, perhaps rightly so at the time. If she's still carrying a grudge though, she needs to get over it.

Though both James Marster and ASH have both said that it was quite obvious on the set it was the last season , and I can't remember which one said it , and if you didn't get that he didn't know where your head was .

This is mostly a misconception as it is pretty unclear where Aly got her bad feelings from. There are reports from the set that say that Joss told everyone before Sarah's interview with EW. There are also interviews with Joss where he basically admits (albeit a few years too late) that it was his fault.

I guess that these 'bad feelings' is just press talk, trying to stirr up stuff that's not there. Thanks for the extra vid spdub.

A big thank Jubas for the link to download vids from youtube. It would be fun if we could, that easily, download vids from other sites. When, like me, you're using public computers.
