I was suspecting that since they were keeping the spelling of Veronika with a K

I can't recall her doing an accent in anything but there's being no particular need though

American actress Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Air I Breathe, Possession) is set to play Veronika. Aidan Quinn and Bridgette Fonda are in talks for other roles in the film though not yet confirmed.

Production weelky relisted Veronika last week meaning there had been some change to the listing but nothing to shift it from May 12th according to myentertainmentworld.com which also relisted it

I have good news for you.I asked some questions and here are the answers

Q:In the book, Veronika wants to make people believe that she has killed herself because people don't even know where Slovenia is.But this movie will get shoot in New York.Will you adapt this into NY or add Slovenia in some way?
A:The story is now set in NY because the filmmakers wanted it to be more accessible to modern audiences. There is a universality to this story and the filmmakers wanted it to be as contemporary and identifiable to American audiences as possible. Veronika is now railing against the superficiality of the world and the emptiness she feels in her day to day life. It is a little deeper now.

Q:Will the characters have accent for their role?
A:Everyone will have an American accent in the film except for Veronika's parents who will have Slavic accents. There are a couple of international actors in the cast and since NY city is a melting pot of many different ethnicities and nationalities, a couple of the actors will have their own foreign accents such as Rena Owen (Once Were Warriors) who will play Nurse Blaska (now called Nurse Josephina).

Q:Lots of the sites(including PalmStar) didn't update the status about the movie and according to them, Kate Bosworth is still the lead.We hope they will change that.
A:The sites will be updated very soon.

Q:According to santjordi-asociados, Aidan Quinn and Bridget Fonda are in talks for other roles in the film though not yet confirmed.Is there any progress on it?
A:Actually that news is inaccurate. They were both in consideration for those roles but they are out of the picture now. Award winning British actor David Thewlis (Remus in the Harry Potter movies), will be playing Dr. Blake (Dr. Igor) and we are in talks with actress Embeth Davidtz (Schindler's List, Feast Of July, Mansfield Park, Junebug) to play Mari. Mari is made younger in the film.

Q:The release date will be 2008 or 2009?
A: The release date will be 2009.

Q:The last question:Some of the movie makers think the audience and make a good thing for them.They create a web site or a blog and then they are talking about the movie,the shootings,actors; adding pictures,telling stories about the shootings etc. Does anyone from your crew think to do that?
A:I will let the producers know that there is a desire for a website.
