Dully predictable "Possession" sees Gellar looking creeped out, or maybe just bored, when her husband's ne'er-do-well brother (Lee Pace) wakes up from a coma after a car accident with her still-comatose hubby's personality and memories seemingly uncannily transferred into his head. Skedded for an October release Stateside, English-language debut for Swedish co-helmers Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist will draw in genre fans and perform well on ancillary.

This is another movie from Roy Lee's Vertigo Entertainment, the company that has been producing so many of these Asian remakes. I have to give Roy Lee kudos for being a heck of a salesman, but Vertigo seems to be on a bit of a losing streak right now. They just came off THE INVASION (Nicole Kidman flop), POSSESSION sounds bad, Thai horror remake SHUTTER and THE EYE both got in the $25-$30 million range theatrically, which is nothing to sneeze at, but critics hated them, and their MY SASSY GIRL remake is going straight-to-video. They've got enough hits to keep the lights on, but maybe the well is running a bit dry at this point?

You're right about the release date poin there spdub. Maybe they [the press] are getting bored with remakes of foreign films. Funny, since The Departed is a remake of Infernal Affairs.
