Default new info about the Air I Breathe:

This is off of IMDB

By Monday, the numbers were in. Our box office wasn't horrible, but it was in no way good. Our distributor decided not only to close the film in LA and NY after the week, but also to NOT open the film anywhere else. No Austin, San Fran, or anywhere. It's on its way to DVD, probably in May.

It's from Bob , the writer of the movie , so is accurate though he does point out in another post that it only applies to the US so it could open in the UK

I think Sarah needs to get away from the Indie films as none of them have done anywhere near a proper advertising campaign for any of her films.

At least I have another DVD sooner than I thought.

The indie route does not seem to have been as successful as she, and we, would have wanted.

It depends on what you mean by successful

If you define it by box office then no it is not successful

If you define it by Sarah getting roles that allow her to stretch as a actor then I think it has been successful

TeenHollywood: After "Buffy" you've taken a variety of film roles but have been doing some indie stuff recently. Is that to help you grow as an actress or.. what?
.... I could take things just because of the experience. I think that's how you grow personally and professionally.
.... Honestly, I am proud of the work that I did in this. And that's hard for me to say. It was a really wonderful experience. My game was raised by working with these actors; Forest [Whitaker], Brendan [Fraser], Andy [Garcia]. These are people you hope to get to work with in your life, but you don't think you'd actually get to work with all at once.
She got good reviews for her performance in ST and more so for her performance in TAIB

I'm sure she would have liked them to have made more money and be seen by more people on the big screen but I don't think Sarah would think of them as failures

^ You're spot on the spdub! I think Indie roles will stretch her as they're usually one's with depth and conflicts. Plus it will also help her stop from just being known as Buffy. Hopefully there'll be a release over here in the UK. I hope so, as it'd be great to see. But I can understand our US posters frustrations over a lack of release. It's the feeling I have with Sarah, and all the other actresses films I like.

I don't deny that these roles have enabled Sarah to stretch and grow as an actress: her performances have been magnificent. But we are talking about Hollywood = business, and in that world it is the box office that determines success. Sad, but true. And that type of success would open the floodgates for Sarah, being offered more and even bigger roles. If you don't fill Hollywood's coffers, then they look for something that will. The indies simply don't have the follow-up (publicity campaigns) to help make a movie a success. Sarah probably has enough cash that she can pick and choose her roles, but you can't tell me that she doesn't also want financial success for the projects she has worked on. While she may relish the roles and the people she has worked with, I believe Sarah is a realist, and she knows how success is defined in H'wood.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think any of her movies hasn't at least covered costs and made a profit (even if it was only a small profit ) when DVD sales are taken into account. Some posters on IMDB have been tracking Suburban Girl and it's apparently after 2 weeks on release made about $9m just about making back it's production budget and that's just from rentals .

Yes it would be nice if the profit was made from the big screen but that's becoming harder in the current climate where basically if it doesn't get an audience straight away they don't give it time to try to build one (3 days for TAIB to get it's audience according to Bob )

On a related note the film critic in my local paper pointed out that there is now twice as many screens in my city than 10 years ago but there is actually 10% less movies on those screens

But as what .She has said she isn't really interested in the wive or girlfriend role and can you think of many mainstream movies that the main female lead or even supporting actress had which was more than that and which they were likely to cast her

I do understand your frustration as the smaller the movie the less likely it is that I will see it in a cinema as well .

Some people (mainly on imdb) are so obesessed with Sarah becoming an A lister that they forget tha she doesn't seem to want that. Part of being a fan, in my opinion, is to support that person no matter what he or she chooses even if you dont agree with those choices. Im not judging anyone, but there isnt really anything that we can do, we cant control her career, so maybe if we just wait we might be surprised and even if we dont get what we want at least there wont be any disappointments.

Sarah has had dissapointing films in the past (SI, HM) and they haven't diminished her spirit one iota. She'll keep "doing what she does best" - to quote Brendan Fraser - and we'll keep supporting her no matter what.

Indeed. Personally I'd rather Sarah do 10 great indie flicks than one really crap blockbuster. As for getting the parts, I feel that now is around the age that exec's may consider Sarah. As before she was 'too young' or 'too old' to play roles.
