The folks who attended Tribecca reported long lines for screenings and totally positive thoughts about the film. This is so totally typical of the Hollywood dipsticks that control the purse strings. Excuse me - I need to go break something. ![]() |

| Member Newbie | ^^^ I concur with that. The Emmy's have been a joke for years, just like the Grammy's and other awards shows. What's popular gets awards, not necessarily what's good. I mean, come on, Everyone Loves Raymond got a million and it was never really funny. As for Suburban Girl, I don't understand it, either. The film was so popular that it sold out every showing quickly and was one of the few films where 2 more screenings had to be added and they sold out as well. IIRC, it didn't have a huge problem getting foreign distribution, so for the life of me, I can't imagine that no other distributors were interested. |

The film has to well known stars, and has had numerous positive reviews. I can't say Sarah's a ''bankable'' star, but she has the second highest box-office opening for a film with a female lead, and is the lead of one of the biggest and well know tv shows in the world. Plus add to the fact that two Baldwin's last films were the Oscar winning The Departed and the critcally acclaimed The Good Shepperd. So what has caused distributors to get cold feet over this? Is it the fear the audience won't buy the relationship between Sarah and Alec's characters? Do the exec's still have it in for Alec after the Devil and Daniel Webster saga? (Renamed Shortcut to Happiness, check out the Jennifer Love Hewitt forum for more details). That the exec's don't want to risk first time directors anymore? (Makes you wonder how the likes of Scorsese, Tarantino, Lucas, etc would makes films now if they were starting out today). Are the exec's not really sure how to catagorise this film? Is it a comedy? A romantic film? Or is it a drama? I'd like to know why this isn't getting distributed, when they chrun out rubbish every week. |
