It looks like it's doing well, but it's not taken much more sadly. How many cinemas is it playing in compared to the other films around it I wonder?

It's had a moderate release. Around 1900 theaters nationwide. There's not much they can do to combat a lack of promotion and the ineptitude in what they were trying to sell it as.

Thanks Fallen That seems okay for the number of cinemas. But was the budget that small they couldn't do much promotion?

Well, Sarah was in Canada and as she was the central figure, it wouldn't make sense to have the other stars involved.

The film was never destined to be a blockbuster, it's just not that type of film, but it could've done alot better with a better marketing campaign. They waited until the last week to start promoting it and like I said in the other thread, they did a horrible job of it. It doesn't matter how good your vanilla ice cream is, if you try to sell it as chocolate, you're going to get screwed. Going up against Borat didn't help much, either.

I read in SFX that Richard Kelly said that the film which was shown in Cannes, was only 80% complete. But he's virtually done for next year. He said that it'll be a Pulp Fiction style way of telling the story. Each characters story interweaves with others in the film.

Thanks for the info Fallen about The Return. I hope that we'll have better promotion over here.

TR is at 7.6 mil and still a half million ahead of the Russell Crowe film. (If that's any consolation). This is how members of "Box Office Mojo" have rated this film:

GRADE THIS MOVIE

Readers - B (63 votes)

GRADE BREAKDOWN
A's: 37 58.7%
B's: 6 9.5%
C's: 2 3.2%
D's: 5 7.9%
F's: 13 20.6%

I think TR has run it's course here in the US. It's at 7.6 mil and averaging only 13 grand a day now. On a positive note - it's still ahead of the Russell Crowe film by a half mil. Looking forward to the DVD already!

Talking SOUTHLAND TALES UPDATE

Richard Kelly just posted this on his Blog and it's good news about ST!!!

"Monday, December 04, 2006

Current mood: energetic

Sorry for the radio silence. I have been incredibly busy finishing
Southland Tales and prepping The Box simultaneously. We are
hoping to begin production in early March, 2007 in Virginia.

After almost a year of editing, we have finally locked picture on
Southland Tales!

2 hrs 17 min. The final cut is 27 minutes shorter than the
"work-in-progress" version that premiered at Cannes. I am very happy
with this edit, as we have done a significant amount of work to solve the
rubiks cube narrative. Justin Timberlake just recorded the final voice-over
this past sunday. We still have some visual effects work to do...
but expect a release date and a trailer soon!

I hope everyone is enjoying Southland Tales - Book II: Fingerprints.
Book III is going to the printer in about a week, and I believe that it is
the best of the three (cerainly the longest). I can't believe it is almost
over... and that we have made it to the end with our sanity intact.
Well... perhaps not completely intact

I leave for Cape Canaveral tomorrow to attend my first space shuttle
launch.

Expect some big announcements soon!

RK"

I've read the first 2 graphic novels of Southland Tales; my question is this: are there to be three total or six? I keep hearing 3 but the novels seem to indicate six. And, if you can EVER attend a space launch, DO !! It is absolutely the most thrilling experience you can imagine. I saw the Apollo XIII launch back in 1970 (maybe I was bad luck) on top of a Saturn V: I can still see it, hear it!!

Exclamation A Girl's Guide Has A New Name

'A Girl's Guide To Hunting And Fishing" has been renamed "Suburban Girl". The official website is now open and you can check it out here: http://www.oddlotentertainment.com/U...-28B0DC054CCF} It has a tentative release date of June 2007. I thought it noteworthy that Sarah is listed first on the poster above Alec Baldwin!
