| Newbie | Okay, maybe I'm officially too old to get it, eh? But, ya know... Glenn Martin DDS, set in Nick's 8 PM time-slot, is indeed watched by kids my son's age (he's 8). Now, I saw that Chabert was gonna take part in one of the episodes. Up to that point, I'd never even heard of the show. Obviously, I did some research - as I always do for my beloved mini-me. What I found with this particular show was shocking. Sexual connotations galore - and I ain't exaggerating in the least. I could understand if this show was slotted at 10 PM or after midnight (for adults who just can't give up their guilty cartoon pleasures), but 8 PM? Flabbergasting! All one has to do to get a FIRST impression is go to Nick's site for this show. The clip shown there should be all that's needed to make the point. I understand the creators are likely reaching for the same dynamic achieved by the old Warner Looney Tunes, however THEIR double meanings weren't so blatant. With those, adults and kids laughed at the exact same times...for very different reasons. Add to it that only adults got the double meanings, and it was only the STUPID parents who actually explained to their offspring what else was meant. DUH! But with this DDS show? It's outright, and Nick actually expects responsible parents to allow this to occupy our kids impressionable minds? Screw that! I understand further that actors must work to be paid - yep! But ya know, I figured Chabert would have at least looked into the thing before posting her name to it (even if only once - so far). After all, she's the "coolest aunt," right? DDS is for three types: high school boys, boys of early college age (or later depending on their actual maturation), and uber-geeks whose right (or left) hands are the only sexual release they'll ever have. Sometimes, Chabert confuses me. She's intelligent, multi-talented, and generally seems to have a good head on those young shoulders. Who's she trying to impress with doing things like this? I thought the Maxim shoot was unwise, but this DDS thing? Totally unnecessary. I had to stop myself from expressing disfavor with my ex for turning our son on to The Simpsons at such a young age. But I held back. Thank God I did, because DDS is far worse and far more worthy of the ire of responsible parenting. It's quite obvious that this show and the channel's prime time programming is done by those WITHOUT kids of their own (or if they do have kids, gotta wonder if Child Services shouldn't be notified). The sexualization of our kids is bad enough with retailers hawking things like thongs for preteen girls and musicians getting boys of the same age thinking their gender opposites can be treated in ways we try very hard to actively discourage. Chabert, I get that you wanna be seen as an adult nowadays. But really, must you take part (even in a small way) in a show that does little more than undertake blatant corruption of our most vulnerable parts? Have you really become that jaded? Very disappointing... Call that a judgment, if you will. One day you'll have a kid or few of your own, and only then will you get it. My son hasn't yet been caught playing "doctor," so do you really think I want the responsibility right now of explaining what "going south" or the reference to "morehead, minnesota" means? Get a clue... Last edited by mwonch; 10-20-2009 at 10:00 AM.. |

| Member ![]() | I understand your frustration but you have to understand. Lacey did a voice for Nick @ Nite. It's PG - TV14 that means your son is too young (8?) to see it. I know that 8 p.m. Central is early and I wouldn't want a kid shown DDS but you have to take it as it is. I'm not going to apologize for Lacey but she has to work. If you don't like that then don't watch. She has done things in the past that I won't bring up here but she got paid. I know you wished she was perfect but no one is. Just because you were offended doesn't mean she is a bad person. Maybe she made a choice that came back to bite her. Sleep on it and if you still feel the same way after your "research" then never watch her again. |

| Newbie | I think you missed the point. Well, Dog, I'll put it this way, then. As a parent - which I know you aren't - I hold myself to the same general standards (at least these days). No one's perfect. I kinda get that. As you should know by now... We all have to work. For me, this means I can't go back to the days where I skirted ethics and some morals just to make comfortable coin. Why? Because I must BE what I say - which means I must DO what I say (or even imply). I never said I was offended, just disappointed. I also never said - or meant to imply - she was or is a bad person. And why would I not watch her again? Not doing so would be silly, yes? I can, however, have my say, right? Deal with it, if you think not. Check that thinking of yours, Dog. The world really doesn't work through such absolutes. I'm her fan, thank you, not her sycophant. Do try not to confuse the two, okay? |

| Member ![]() | Anyone could read that you were on a rant. I may have misconstrued some of your meaning. I know the world isn't black or white, it's gray. I don't have any kids, you're right, but I check out a show before I would let a kid watch it. Would you let him watch Family Guy? I think not. I guess you have a greater fortitude as a 41 year old man than Lacey does as a 27 year old actress. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and let it be. You can keep watching her (I know you will) but don't go blindly, She may let you down if you are that sensitive. This is it, I won't answer this thread again. |

| Moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I never heard of the show myself, but I gotta say after watching that clip with them on the road listening to "NorthStar" or whatever, I'm pretty surprised that kinda of show is on Nickelodeon! Seems like it could work on maybe Adult Swim on cartoon network, but that's probably Nickelodeon's answer for the same ratings/demographic. Seems a shame as I remember fondly of my times watching Nickelodeon as a youngin. No kids running amok around here yet though :P |

| Newbie | Dog - um, actually, I'm 42. I am gratified, though, that you lopped off a year for me. *wink* Look, man, don't get me wrong. It's not my intent to seriously smack ya around. You oughta know my style by now, and usually you can hack it or even return it in spades without the spiteful tantrum. May I also remind you: CUB FAN HERE! Which obviously means that, even if wrong, I'm right. Save that anger for those eeee-vil Cardinals after their horrendous showing this past season (*mumbles* bastards *shakes fist*). Seriously, man, if something's buggin' ya you know darn well you can call and chat it out. Shaun - yeah, that's exactly my point. The time slot's a bit too early for a show like that, especially for Nick which up until recently was ONLY for the kids. I suppose we can blame Sponge Bob for this, though. Had all those adults not fallen for the silly fool Nick wouldn't have begun thinking a bit too far INSIDE the box (so to speak *ahem*). My opinion still stands... |

| Member ![]() | I'll break my "no more answers in this thread". Sorry for not getting your age right Wonch but half a dozen of one LOL. I know your sense of humor and you can't smack me around :-) I just thought that you were a little harsh with Nick @ Nite and Lacey's voice acting. I don't think I had a tantrum, I just thought you went to far. I like Lacey but she doesn't always make the right choices but I think she has good intentions. You are entitled to your opinion and I know you are very opinionated but I'll let it be. I'm doing great so I don't need to talk but thanks for the offer. Shaun, Wonch lives in Northern Illinois, he might show at your wedding, It's only a few hours drive. Shaun, you don't think your Fiancee (SP?) wouldn't let Lacey be a Bridesmaid. What about the flower girl? LOL Good luck! I hope you have a great day. ![]() |

| Lacey's Man ![]() ![]() ![]() | IMNSHO: She's got plenty of money, she's not going to starve. There's no reason for her to blindly sign her name to things if she doesn't really believe in them, so the question is, is she anything at all like she claims to be, or is she taking the Sharon Stone defense? (As in, it never occurred to her that if she took her panties off and spread her legs in front of a camera that she just might expose something that she didn't want exposed - meaning, "I didn't know what I was doing".) I must say, I'm disappointed she feels she has to stoop to this level. There's a difference between suffering for your art and compromising your principles. She has FAR better options than this that don't even require her to quit acting or be anything other than herself. If she can't see the obvious solution, I'll be happy to point it out to her; I had to have it pointed out to me too, and I'm a heckuva lot better for it. |
